MrTheSpork 8 Michigan St8 is back, helped by a couple losses above them. The Spartans played closer than expected against Furman, mostly due to costly fourth-down conversions that resulted in 10 points, but I'm going to chalk that up to first-game jitters more than anything. Next game up should tell us more.

TheFlyingBoat 8 Furman gave them way too much trouble, though I don't think it is emblematic of future problems. Their new QB is no Connor Cook though, but he did a solid job. Over time he should become more confident running this offense.

BugsSuck 9 MSU struggled against Furman. WTF? They seriously do play to the level of their competition and I hope they can break out of it. Unless it's against Maryland. But still, I think they are able to battle with the worst and battle with the best.

kdcoltred 11 This ranking is purely based on the coaching and developmental ability of Mark Dantonio. Easily one of the best coaches in the country and right there with Urban Meyer as best in the Big Ten. Sorry Harbaugh, scoreboard matters.

CockADoodleBOOM 13 Stayed the same from last week, but they were really unimpressive against a mediocre FCS team in Furman. This is probably the last time I get to talk about Furman during one of these polls though so WOO GO PALADINS.

SenorPuff 13 Michigan State lost my confidence in their game this week. I think they'll finish higher than this as they continue through the season, I think they have the tools to be a top 10 team, but from what I saw this weekend they weren't playing like a top 10 team.

Wurst_Law 14 Looked horrendous. Cannot put these guys as a top team with such a small sample size that was so ugly.
atchemey 15 We didn't take care of business cleanly, but the game wasn't ever really in doubt, no matter what my nervous gut pretended. The DL will be running gassers, and CB Darien Hicks needs to turn his head around to play the ball, but the new guys mostly did well. The OL needs work, but it wasn't a terrible performance. Tyler O'Connor is more than serviceable, and was a pleasant surprise with a good statline. Ultimately, I didn't move us up, so much as just kept us floating with other teams around us.

G-manP 15 The Spartans looked alright against Furman...the FCS school....not even receiving votes in the FCS top 25, they will need to play better, soon. Their next two opponents will most certainly be ranked.

monkeymatt1836 16 This years Spartan squad is off to a slow start. While they only beat FCS Furman 28-13, they were never in danger of losing the game. New QB Tyler O'Connor and RB LJ Scott both looked pretty average. The bright spot was the defense, who did their job well. Furman only put up a little over 200 yards all together. With an upcoming BYE week, they have some extra time to work out their kinks before their Week 3 matchup with Notre Dame under the lights in South Bend. If they look like they did against Furman, the Spartans could be in for a long night.

BlueFalcon89 17 MSU struggled and had definite flaws, but there are bright spots on the squad as well as a coaching staff where they can't be ignored.  MSU is famous for playing down to opponents.  Week 3 against ND will be telling.

corundum9 19 Struggled against a 4-7 FCS team, QB didn't make a second read all game, and the secondary looked questionable at best. I will give MSU a big boost if they can beat Notre Dame in week 3, but I think Kizer will carve up the Spartan defense with ease.
gohuskies 19 MSU could of course win the Big Ten too, but Furman was in that game way too long.
