Awesome defensive effort, and I really like what I see from their quarterback. I don't think this team looks like a title threat, but...they're not far off. They could run the table and get in, and if they've settled into an offensive identity by that point, I do think they could threaten 1-3 on some level. The talent is there if they ever find The Guy at quarterback. |

That could've gone much much worse. ND gave themselves a fighting chance in this game, when most people thought they'd get crushed. The offense wasn't good but....it's week 1 with a new QB. However the defense was spectacular against a unit many think is the best in CFB. If they get that kind of effort all year than Notre Dame is a playoff team. If any case the September 24th game vs UNC is must-watch TV. |

That defense is either really damn good or Ohio State's offense is not what was promised. I hope it's the former for Notre Dame's sake, because when that offense gets healthy again, and that defense is beastly, Notre Dame would not only be in a position to sneak into the Playoff, but possibly win a game and make the title. If it's the latter, then Freeman's first season at the helm might be a bit bumpy. The good news is that it looks like Kelly was actually holding the Irish back. |

Notre Dame put on an impressive display against Ohio State, even with the loss. I expect ND will bounce back and should be a contender for a NY6 at minimum. |

well they kept it close for awhile, and lost to a team who should "easily" make the playoffs, and they wont (could make it not easily tho) but dropping some du eot so early and losses are losses |

Looked as good as a team can in a loss. It was closer than the score. They looked as tough as I’ve seen them look in years. Once they settle in, they will be even scarier. Still need to see them deliver in a big game, though. Strangely enough, I was really impressed by what they showed despite only putting up 10 and being shut out after halftime. The potential and talent are not the issue. |

Loss to OSU does not warrant massive dropoff from last week especially considering they managed to keep it a tight game for the majority of the contest. Offensive line play will continue to be a question mark that may drop them further in the future. |

Everyone expected Notre Dame to get blown out but they played Ohio State almost as well as they could have. Props to the Irish for holding their own in Columbus and limiting Ohio State's offense to just 21 points. |

Week 1: Ohio State 21, Notre Dame 10
Record: 0-1
It's another loss for Notre Dame in a big game and I don't think moral victories are what their fans are looking for at this point, but there's nothing for the Irish to hang their heads about in the first game of Marcus Freeman's first full season as head coach. They still look like a team that should be contending for an NY6 bowl. |

I loved Notre Dame's first half, and was pleasantly surprised by how Buchner performed early. Hated the second half, especially the fourth quarter, where it felt like Notre Dame was playing just to keep it close rather than to win. At the end of the day, they lost on the road to a likely playoff team by two possessions, which is not exactly a terrible loss. |
