I don't really know what to expect from MSU this year. I am higher on them than some other people. I am also not exactly sure why that is. I could see this team winning 10 games. I could also see them winning 6-7, especially with how tough their schedule looks. At the end of the season, I will either look like a forward thinker or total idiot for ranking them in my preseason top 10. With my luck, it'll be the latter-- but I still felt strongly enough to "bet" the former by putting them here. |

Losing KW3 is a big loss, but he’ll be replaced with the former PAC12 player of the year and a 4* RB transfer from Wisconsin. If one of them doesn’t pan out, there’s 5 other RBs in the running back room.
Returning starting QB and top WR from last year, along with several WRs with experience, a transfer TE from Illinois to go along with Hunt and Carr.
The defense is returning 9 starters from last year and bringing in several transfers and a new pass rush specialist coach.
Overall, the weaknesses of the team are the O-Line and pass defense, but those were issues last year too and the Spartans finished 11-2 with a win in the Peach Bowl. |

Time to see if Mel Tucker's last season was an aberration. I'm leaning towards MSU being competitive throughout his tenure. |

Losing Kenneth Walker is a tough pill to swallow but there's enough strength remaining on the offense to expect the Spartans to still be able to deal some damage to opposing defenses. I'm not sure I trust the defense still with the egregious secondary issues seen a season ago, but if that flaw gets just a bit less fatal then they should have another great season. |

The Spartans will meet expectations. They'll lose to Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, but beat everyone else and win their second-tier bowl game. |

Great season and solid chunk returns; lucky (4-0 in one possession); coaching staff intact; good recruiting. Very similar to Wisconsin but statistically wasn't nearly as good. Balances out with returning personnel; UW gets the nod for long-term performance. |

122.3 points -> NY6 Contender. By the numbers, Michigan State overachieved last year. This year, they may match their expectations by staying about as good as last year's run. |

MSU had a stellar 2021 season but Mel Tucker still has work to do to make MSU perennially competitive. Watch out for RB Jarek Broussard who transferred from Colorado (where he played under Mel Tucker) as he replaces star Kenneth Walker. Broussard was an underrated star stuck on a terrible CU team. |

Mel Tucker reminds me of how I coach on NCAA football. For that reason alone I believe that he'll be successful. Which really maddens the Penn State fan in me. I do think the contract was a bit pre-mature though. |
