If they win all their games they'll be the undisputed #1. For now they're #1 because everyone else tried too hard to not be #1. See below. |

I think the Huskies will be far and away the best team in the Pac-12 this year and will be in the playoff for the second time in three years. Jake Browning will have a much bigger year than last year behind a more experienced O-line. |

Last I checked, Washington returns 17 players this season. Browning and Gaskin returning are huge and Petersen is among my favorite coaches. The Dawgs of the west-coast have a lot of hype to live up to. I imagine they'll be the clear Pac-12 favorites to make the playoffs. Their game against Auburn will be a huge indication of how well their season goes. If they win, great! They'll be able to handle almost anyone. If they lose, it's not the end of the world obviously but they'd have to win out, likely in convincing fashion, if they want to make the playoffs. |

Last
was a letdown in the results column, but Washington was very good regardless.
While Browning didn't take "the next step" he and Miles Gaskin
still form an extremely envious RB/QB combo. Combined with the bulk of the
defense returning, including almost every major playmaker sans the elite Vita
Vea; I see nobody else with the combination of experience, talent, and high
quality coaching on both sides of the ball in the Pac12 having a good
argument for moving in front of them going into the season. |

The first tier containing multiple teams occurred here. I ranked Washington over Wisconsin because I think Washington has a better QB and Defense. |

Washington returns most of their offensive production in Browning and Gaskin, as well as their defensive coordinator who came out of nowhere to put up impressive numbers with that unit. The Pac12 North is a 2-team race unless Oregon surprises some people in Cristobal's first year. The Huskies' week one contest against Auburn is going to show a lot of people whether either of these teams deserve the preseason hype. A loss will narrow their path to the playoff, even though both teams will still be among the favorites in the division. |

DBU is probably down in Baton Rouge (I know I probably just pissed off like two of the three people who will read this) but Washington looks to be gunning for that title as well. The 2016 UW secondary was one of the best in recent memory but this year's might be even better--and it's certainly deeper. This secondary might have seven EVENTUAL All-americans. Byron Murphy is a legitimate Thorpe candidate . . . oh, and so are Taylor Rapp and Jordan Miller. On offense, Jake "Noodle Arm" Browning gets as much criticism as he does love--both probably being fair. The receiving corps is a concern, but if Chico McClatcher is the same guy he was before injury he should be a reliable target. Myles Gaskin should continue his trend of steady improvement and could even be an All-American. My Huskies record prediction: 11-1. I gave the Huskies the W in their season opener against Auburn, but that game is definitely a coin flip that could go either way. I have their one loss coming from archrival Oregon Ducks. I think the Ducks get revenge for being embarrassed by the Huskies the last two times they met and Eugene goes crazy for a night. Quack. |

Petersen is probably the best coach in the country not named Saban, Meyer or Swinney. The way he's built up Washington, the way he built up Boise State, is nothing short of impressive. They return so much talent that I expect them to tear their way through the Pac-12 with few issues. |

My last predicted playoff team for this season is Washington. They face a favorable conference schedule (no Khalil Tate or USC) and a blow to the cupcake argument with Auburn and BYU out of conference, assuming BYU is better. Most of the questions about this team will be answered in week 1 when we see if Auburn can live up to their hype while Washington vies for another playoff run. If they go 1-0, they should be heavily favored in every other game and sweep through the rest of their schedule into a PAC 12 title game against USC. This year is shaping up to have the most important Conference Championship weekend of the playoff era. |

Has any program benefited from their head coach taking another job quite like Washington? Since Sark left in 2013, Chris Petersen has made the Huskies a national title contender. There is a lot to like about this team. They should be the favorites to take the Pac 12 title and make a push for the CFP. |

Obviously lost some talent on the defensive side, but experience on the offensive side wins out for me. I expect Washington to be able to hold their own in the PAC-12. Tough matchups right out the gate for Washington will show us what we have in them |

The Pac-12 is always hard to predict, but I would be surprised if Washington is not top-dog (ha!). They open against Auburn, which could very easily derail their season, especially since they follow up two weeks later by playing a personal dark horse: Utah. Their first 3 games are going to be absolutely crucial. |
