Veteran, loaded, Harris will improve, and Fournette is a stud. I think they squeak by Bama at home en route to an SEC championship. |

I'm riding high on LSU. They had the 3rd best recruiting class with damn near everyone coming back for both sides of the ball. If Fournette returns to pre-Alabama form, this team will make a serious run at the CFP. |

Brandon Harris should improve this year, but his progression will most likely take a backseat to the frightening 1-2 punch that is Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice.  If their defense can hold teams hostage as was the case last year, Fournette should have the time to get into rhythm and gash teams well into the 220+ yard mark.   |

The first team not a 2015 CFP competitor is -- you guessed it -- an SEC team.LSU has a few important games -- an early-season "neutral" matchup against Wisconsin, a trip to play always-confusing Arkansas, a potential top-ten matchup against Florida -- but not a single one would matter more than taking down #1 on this list for the first time since the rematch year. With Les Miles potentially coaching for his job, LSU might be in the best position they've had for five years to make a championship run, and that's going to be in large part on the back of Leonard Fournette. As with Watson and Mayfield, there's nothing I can say that's not been parroted frequently, he's an incredible back deserving heavy Heisman consideration. On offense, the chief concern is Brandon Harris's passing, but he should improve on what was just average play over last season. Defensively  |

Despite a disappointing season last year, they have all the pieces to succeed. The only question is their passing, but even without it, I think Fournette makes up a lot for their offensive shortcomings. I'm not totally sure their a top 4 team, but I'm taking a chance on them in the preseason. |

Combine a team returning the most experience in the nation (#1 SB Nation returning experience rank) with arguably one of the top 5 most talented rosters in the nation (#3 in the 2016 247sports team talent composite) has LSU make a big jump in my top 25 poll from where they were at last year.  |

In nearly any other division of college football, this roster would be almost certainly playoff-bound.  But in the thick of fall, the gamut of SEC West teams from top to bottom has proven too much for Les Miles several times.  This is certainly one of the best teams in the nation on paper, but the question remains as to whether Les Miles will learn from past mistakes.   |

Leonard Fournette anchors a team that will bring back more 2015 starters than any other P5 team. If Fournette can play as expected, the winner of the home game vs. Alabama will likely be the SEC-West representative for the Championship game. |

I'm not sold on the rest of the team, but Fournette should be enough to get these guys into the top 15 at the worst. Go get 'em, Tigers. |

See FSU review. But in all seriousness, if Dave Aranda can close half of the gaping chasm between the collective defensive talent and collective defense play that held LSU back last year (I think he can) then LSU will be clear challengers for the playoffs. Also Fournette etc.  |

I'm not certain how LSU's passing game will be this year, but with LF7 and Guice expecting a bigger share of the running this year I'm not too concerned about it yet. Especially returning so many starters. |

This could be a make it or break it year for Les Miles after last year's fiasco. If LSU do not make a run for the CFP, he may be out of a job come January. The QB position has always plagued Les Miles during his tenure at LSU. If Miles can get his QB play sorted out, expect LSU to be contenders for not only the SEC crown, but the NCAA crown as well. LSU returns a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, including Leonard Fournette, who many consider to be the top RB in the country. Expect the Tigers to have their Nov 5 matchup with Alabama circled on their calendars after their performance last year.   |
