2023 Final Florida State Seminoles Rankings

bretticus33	3	This is where things get more controversial. For me, the final rankings are a reflection of the teams' seasons. With teams having a ton of bowl opt-outs, I find it harsh to negatively judge a team for their bowl performance if they're missing so many key players. In Florida State's case, I don't care that they lost by 60 when it was the 3rd and 4th string guys who rode the bench all season and being played out of position against a really good Georgia team that still had most of their key players going. Florida State should have been in the playoff over Alabama.

GatorBolt	6	I think a what if will always hang upon this season for the Seminoles, and while I have no love lost as a Gator I still think the committee got it wrong on principle and the precedent set is damning for College Football. Still, they had their chance to make things difficult for the final rankings but a lot of the team opted out and they got smoked by UGA's depth. After that Orange Bowl, I can't in good faith not punish them in the rankings.

Zloggt	6	Florida State, undefeated champion of a major conference, was infamously left out of the last 4-team CFP, an act that is foolish incompetent at best and outright maliciously corrupt and self-serving at worse. As such, the team and its fans rightfully feel anger and disappointment at missing out on the chance of natty goodness, instead being left in a consolation game that would hardly console ANYBODY. That being said...the Seminoles COULD have at least taken the route of their fellow disrespected Sunshine State program, the 2017 UCF Knights, in SHOWING the CFP of just how wrong they were by winning their bowl game with grace and glory. Of course, the state of bowls isn't the same now, and there is MUCH more justification for how players can opt out...but uh...you know...63-3? I'm a man who likes taking EVERYTHING into consideration...so let me just say this: We ALL feel just as offended as FSU when it came to the Committee's final picks...but at the same time, if you REALLY wanted to stick it to them...then maybe a different plan should've been in place...

FlashSpider-man	3	So idk what to do here or where to rank them. Bowl games are dumb now, as no one cares. Here, no one even showed up. So I don't feel I can hold it against then. Ultimately, they went undefeated when most of their players played. Some may say "they had an easy schedule", to which my response would be to point out before the playoffs, Michigan only played two difficult teams, though idk how good Penn State should be considered. Based on ap rankings, FSU beat 12, 19, and 20, while Michigan beat 10, 13, and 24. The point is I don't understand how their resume isn't considered comparable at least. Plus, JJ Mccarthy never did anything for Michigan. I mean, they ran the ball for an entire half against a good team. And Michigan was repeatedly ranked 1 (which they ended up demonstrating they deserve). I stand by a belief the B1G was comparable to the ACC (actually, I think the ACC had more depth, though FSU didn't play all of the top teams)

CriterionCrypt	6	I was a "Justice for FSU" guy until I dove a little deeper into the numbers. FSU would have entered the playoff with the weakest schedule of all playoff teams since the playoff was conceived. Their schedule strength was closer to that of a G5 school rather than a P5 school. If you want the benefits of being a power 5 champion, then you need to play a Power 5 schedule.

With so many players opting out, the remaining team was eviscerated by a much better-stocked Georgia. Still, Florida State's undefeated regular season and conference championship places them squarely among the top teams in the country in my rankings of the year's best teams.

I'm not saying that FSU's skeleton of a team getting destroyed by UGA means the committee was right, but they did have a chance to prove the committee wrong and instead everyone opted out. This team never really passed the eye test for me and unfortunately we'll never know how good they could've been if Travis stayed healthy. I know they went undefeated and won a P5 conference and they do deserve credit for that, I just think that you could've easily justified leaving them out of the top 4 teams and that's just a really unfortunate situation all around. The 12-team playoff can't come soon enough to prevent situations like this. Sorry, FSU fans.
