GatorBolt Ballot for 2023 Final

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Jan. 9, 2024, 11:48 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Michigan Wolverines First team to hold 15 opponents to under 25 points since 1903 Minnesota. Out of everything after last night, that stat floored me the most. What a dominant season and an absolutely deserved National Championship. Hail to the Victors, indeed.
Washington Huskies Just an unfortunate time to have one of their worst games of the year. Still, a season to be proud of in Seattle. Long live the Pac-12.
Texas Longhorns Oh so close to pulling off a comeback in the Sugar Bowl. Still, despite the talent leaving this year, Texas is set up well as they head to the SEC and they have a lot of talent on the way. Texas is Back, folks.
Alabama Crimson Tide While their resume got nitpicked, they ended up facing 3 of the teams in this top 5 and gave Michigan one of the biggest scares they had all year. While they went 1-2, that's still an impressive resume and I think despite the fact that I disagree with them being let in over FSU, the decision was justifiable.
Georgia Bulldogs There will be a what if for the Bulldogs. Only a 3 point loss to Alabama separated them from the playoffs, and I will say that them vs. Michigan would have been a hell of a game. That said, they had their chance and lost to Alabama.
Florida State Seminoles I think a what if will always hang upon this season for the Seminoles, and while I have no love lost as a Gator I still think the committee got it wrong on principle and the precedent set is damning for College Football. Still, they had their chance to make things difficult for the final rankings but a lot of the team opted out and they got smoked by UGA's depth. After that Orange Bowl, I can't in good faith not punish them in the rankings.
Oregon Ducks Not every day you get a Buy Game in a Bowl Game.
Missouri Tigers 11-2 with a win, albeit with opt-outs, over Ohio State. I feel like the simulation is broken. That said, what an impressive season for Drinkwitz and company.
Ole Miss Rebels An NY6 berth and madness in the portal. What a time to be in Oxford as the Expanded Playoff looms.
Ohio State Buckeyes A season most programs would kill for. But yet, Chernobyl can't even compare to the meltdown in Columbus this morning....
Arizona Wildcats What a turnaround for Jedd Fisch. 70-7 was not that long ago.
Penn State Nittany Lions Opt-outs hurt for sure, but another blue ball season in Happy Valley.
LSU Tigers No Jayden and they could still score at will in Tampa.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish A Sun Bowl turned out to put a solid end to a roller coaster season for the Fighting Irish.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Still the weirdest season, but a solid ending beating Texas A&M.
Oklahoma Sooners A season of what ifs after the Kansas and Oklahoma State losses. Still though, a solid bounceback season in Norman.
Kansas State Wildcats I was tempted to vote them number 1. Did Michigan eat a mascot this year? Didn't think so.
Tennessee Volunteers A shutout win is a solid way to end a bumpy year for the Vols.
Kansas Jayhawks There was a time where 9 wins would feel like a pipe dream in Lawrence. Hard for them to not be excited for an improving football team and deep renovations starting on their stadium as they head towards the new look Big 12.
Louisville Cardinals A good season all things considered but the ending is just not good at all.
Clemson Tigers Tyler from Spartanburg might have brought back the old Dabo.
NC State Wolfpack NC State just refuses to have a 10 win season. In all fairness, it's tough when an anthropomorphic Pop Tart is on the line.
South Dakota State Jackrabbits I don't love a lot of the teams in this range, so I decided to show some love to the Jackrabbits. Absolutely dominated the FCS, and a well deserved FCS Natty!
Iowa Hawkeyes The Brian Ferentz reign is over. Thank God.
SMU Mustangs A solid season ending in a gloomy day and loss to Boston College. Oof.
