Week 1: Miami (FL) 70, Bethune-Cookman 13
Record: 1-0
There has been a ton of hype surrounding the Hurricanes this offseason since the hire of new head coach Mario Cristobal. Handily beating an FCS opponent with balanced offense and a few defensive takeaways is a nice place to start. A Week 3 showdown in College Station against Texas A&M looms large. |

The Cristobal era kicked off with a huge win over Bethune-Cookman and Miami looked like one of the most impressive teams in Week 1. However, given the recent histories of Cristobal and Miami, I'm hesitant to put the Canes higher. |

I'm still being gaslighted by their preseason hype, and destroying an FCS team was expected and doesn't move the barometer (pun intended). |

Put up 70 on a FCS opponent. With the talent on the roster and their coach, that’s enough to get me to buy into them being somewhat good this year, |

I don't know what I think of Miami. I think Mario Cristobal is a good program-builder, but I think his game management borders on idiotic. I like their quarterback, but I don't think he's as good as everyone else seems to. They bring back a lot on defense, and relatively little on offense, which makes me think they're going to get into rock fights and likely lose some of them (Pitt comes to mind). They're good but I'm not picking them for the division. |
