4-0 Michigan surges to #1 with a win over P5 Purdue (2-2). Michigan's opponents are 7-3 (70%) against teams other than Michigan, and those 10 games have been played against teams that are an equally impressive 22-9 (71%) -- i.e., Michigan has managed to stay unbeaten against what appear to be some pretty decent teams. |

PLRCOAT: 9.645. This is not the #1 team that I expected, but I don't think it's crazy to believe that Michigan has the best resume in the country right now - especially since my rankings don't consider MOV. Michigan is one of 6 teams in the country with 4 FBS wins, for one, and their wins are: 6.039 Florida (#12), 1.75 Cincinnati, 0-pointer Air Force, and 3.5 Purdue. It's that Florida win that's really paying dividends right now, as Florida tightropes their way through their conference schedule, and the Purdue win was an immediate boost as well. |

Nobody really seems to want this number 4 spot, but Michigan did the best job taking care of business against Purdue. Still very close with USC, Washington, and Penn State for this spot. |

Boilmakers played Louisville close, which led me to believe they were probably top 30 at the time. Louisville has since dropped a bit and Michigan outplayed them but I don't think it's not a bad win to tack on. They move up more cuz other teams dropped.  |

USC and Washington have yet to prove themselves.  Michigan, at least, had Florida.  They get the benefit of the doubt. |

Somehow, Florida keeps winning. That puts Michigan's win over Florida as a solid win. This weekend, they beat a Purdue team that is significantly better than they were last year (although still Purdue). |

+1. Opened Big ten play with a road trip. First half was dicey, but once O'korn got situated, the offense was the smoothest I have seen it this year. Defense is still the king to this team's present and future success. |

Michigan keeps giving me reasons to not rank them so high, but the defense is just too good to be ignored. They have a bye then get MSU and Indiana before going to Happy Valley. The schedule is very backloaded and that could be an issue. |

Michigan performed just how I expected: great defense, unintimidating offense. Wouldn't be surprised to see Harbaugh's team remain in this section of the rankings all year. They consistently beat the teams they should and struggle against elite competition. |

Someone on r/CFB: "Mooooooooom, he did it again."Yup, another team behind a team that they beat. Whole milk, steaks, slumber parties with kickers and their schedule are not helping Coach Harbaugh here. The Wolverines opponents' record is at 500 exactly and have not been efficient in the scoring department having less than 4 points per trip inside the opponents 40 in 3 of 4 games. They also have an abysmal 35.5% first down conversion rate.I look for their ranking though to be on the uptick as we go through more games. |
