Ghost_of_Dude Ballot for 2017 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 25, 2017, 2:54 p.m.

Overall Rationale: NEXT TEN OUT: Duke, Stanford, Texas Tech, Memphis, Oregon, LSU, Iowa, Wake Forest, UCF, NC State DROPPED OUT: Florida State (by virtue of being 0-2 and not looking good against NC State), LSU (by virtue of being pummeled by Mississippi State who was in turn pummeled by Georgia), Oregon (by losing to the first decent team they faced and Nebraska looking worse by the week), Kansas State (by virtue of Vanderbilt being assblasted by Alabama) FINAL NOTE: I literally could not watch any football this weekend (outside of a couple highlights and keeping up on scores) so I'm doing this based solely on advanced metrics, computer models, stats, and scorelines. Go easy on me, I moved this weekend

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Jesus christ Alabama, have some mercy. This team looks really tough to beat right now. As usual, they're the team to beat
Clemson Tigers Took a bit to pull away from BC but they still won comfortably and I see no reason for them to drop from the #2 spot
Oklahoma Sooners Baylor played them close but after Oklahoma State dropped to TCU, Oklahoma looks to be the clear frontrunner for the Big XII. However, they have to face both Oklahoma State and TCU in back to back weeks, which will be a brutal slate to run. For now, they're comfortably #3
Penn State Nittany Lions They survived their trap game in Iowa with a thrilling last second win. Saquon Barkley is the truth and he can carry this team all the way until the end
Washington Huskies Washington demolished a Colorado team that looked like it could be top 25, proving they're still a team to be reckoned with despite some slow starts
USC Trojans They handled a decent looking California team on the road to remain undefeated. However, I'm still a bit unimpressed with this team so far and they have much to prove
Wisconsin Badgers Wisco had a bye week and maintains their position. Looking at their schedule, their big tests don't come for another couple of months
Georgia Bulldogs Yowza, I thought Mississippi State was a legitimate team. Maybe LSU just blows. Or maybe Georgia is just that good. Either way, I see no reason for this team to not be top 10.
TCU Horned Frogs I was not expecting this team to handle Oklahoma State like they did. On the road, no less. I'm very impressed with this team so far and they may make a run for the playoffs if they can minimize mistakes from Kenny Hill
Michigan Wolverines Michigan smothered a Purdue team hunting for an upset handily. A pretty decent win if you ask me
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State looked more like the Ohio State we expected against UNLV. However, this means little until they can show it against better competition
Virginia Tech Hokies GOBBLES UNDEFEATEDLY
Oklahoma State Cowboys A disappointing loss for sure, but the Cowboys have plenty of time to recover and make a run at the playoff
Washington State Cougars They've taken care of business so far, but this Friday they'll have the chance to truly prove their worth against the Trojans on their home turf
Auburn Tigers Weird team to rank right now. They don't look particularly good, but I'm not completely sure who to rank above them. I think this is the line separating the great, playoff potential teams from the just good teams
Miami Hurricanes I'm still not sure what to do with the Hurricanes but a sound win over a good G5 program gives them a bit of clout in my poll finally. Next week against Duke will be a much better test for them
USF Bulls Cruised to an easy win against Temple. The game against UCF, who are starting to look rather threatening, may end up being the biggest game on their regular season schedule
Louisville Cardinals 18 feels right for this team. Lamar Jackson is still an electric player but he lacks the team around him to be a formidable threat against top teams. They handled Kent State as they should
Utah Utes I'm still not sure if this team is good or not
San Diego State Aztecs I fucked up by not including this team in my next five out this week, so their jump looks a bit weird but it's only because I'm correcting last week's mistake
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Suddenly a single point loss to Georgia is looking like a #QualityLoss, and they've thrashed every other opponent, including Boston College, a team that just kept it close with Clemson until a 4th quarter collapse. Though to be fair, they never fell far behind the Irish until the 4th either, but still, this is a very favorable comparison. Also helps that the computers still love this team
West Virginia Mountaineers Their win against Kansas was a bit ugly at times but it's a win nonetheless
Mississippi State Bulldogs Ugly, ugly loss. I still think this is a good team but they aren't ready to hang with the top teams just yet
Florida Gators This team is scraping by and I'm not convinced they're top 25 but here they are
Minnesota Golden Gophers ROW THAT BOAT MOTHERFUCKERS. The Gophers were off this week but they make it into the poll by virtue of other teams dropping out
