4-1 UM's opponents are 12-9 (57.1%) against other teams, who themselves are 52-24 (68.4%) against other competition -- giving them a decent SoS. But when you take a closer look, you realize their best wins are over mediocre Florida and Purdue teams, with the other two wins coming against struggling Cincinnati and Air Force. Their remaining schedule leaves plenty of opportunities (OSU, PSU, etc) to prove themselves and move up. |

-6 spots (previously 7). So there may be some biased here, but I decided to drop Michigan only to 13 because I honestly feel that we can beat most of the teams below us. I have a different perspective on who should be where and I don't honestly feel like a rivalry game should drop us as far as it did. In the event that the weather wasn't involved in that game, I feel the results could have been different. Basically what happened is whichever team was up before the weather, was going to win short of a lack in ability to move the ball. A freak incident was the only chance either team had to make a score at that point. Therefore I am not moving Michigan down any further. I'd like to see how they bounce back and what they do against an actually good team first (Penn State). |

Michigan's offensive struggles finally came back to hurt them. If they can't pass the ball against strong defenses, their ceiling will be very limited this year.  |

There are a lot of reasons Michigan lost to Michigan State, the biggest one is the complete lack of offense. |

lol. Okay but in seriousness, this was about as ugly a loss as they come. 5 turnovers, losing your starting quarterback for the year, losing to an unranked RIVAL at home. I'd enjoy the schadenfreude a bit more if I didn't know what a terrible looking one score home loss in shitty weather to Michigan State felt like. The Wolverine defense is elite (as evidenced by the scoreline despite their offense being a turnover machine) but that offense is gonna make it hard for them to beat other elite teams (as evidenced by their offense being a turnover machine.)  It's also important to note that the weather may make this look worse than it really was. I know all about shitty weather games. |

Yes, UM is above MSU. They were -5 in TO margin in the downpour and still nearly won. That said, it's still not a good loss. |

This brings me great joy to drop the Wolverines so far. Before you quickly point out that I'm an ND fan who hates Michigan and that must be the reason for this, you can see from my previous polls that I grudgingly ranked the Wolverines top 5 when it looked like they had a solid resume. That all fell apart this weekend. Their win over Florida lost a lot of luster after the Gators got beat by a pretty bad LSU team. Also, they got beat at home by Michigan State. Michigan has a good defense, but it's offense is just bad.  |
