Ghost_of_Dude Ballot for 2017 Week 7

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 9, 2017, 12:43 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I rank the teams that I think are the best, period. NEXT TEN OUT: Utah, Houston, West Virginia, Louisville, Iowa, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Wake Forest. DROPPED OUT: Louisville (team is being carried by Jackson), Utah, West Virginia, Florida.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide The Crimson Tide looked slightly less dominant against the Aggies, but I'm betting this is the anomaly and not the norm.
Clemson Tigers Clemson cruised against Wake Forest and look to have a relatively easy road to the playoff, their last major hurdle appears to be road trip to NC State.
Georgia Bulldogs I would have never expected Georgia to be in the top 3 at any point this season, but here they are. A win over ND that looks better every week and easy demolishing of other teams in their path. Could they down Bama in December?
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State makes it through the first half of the season without much trouble. They have a week off before the gauntlet of Michigan, Ohio State, and now ranked Michigan State. Good luck making it through that undefeated.
Washington Huskies Washington notched a fairly routine win over Cal. Still several weeks before the get to the meatier part of their schedule.
TCU Horned Frogs TCU managed to survive a tough as nails WVU and maintain their undefeated record. With Oklahoma's issues becoming more problematic and apparent, TCU now appears to be the somewhat unexpected class of the conference.
Washington State Cougars The Cougars handled the Ducks even better than I thought they would. This team should not be overlooked. The computer polls are finally taking notice too. Washington better have their shit together for the Apple Cup.
Wisconsin Badgers The Badgers continue to beat the teams on their schedule. That's really all that can be said about them so far. Probably the biggest unknown team at the moment.
Ohio State Buckeyes There will undoubtedly be controversy about what I'm guessing will be a higher ranked Ohio State team above Oklahoma (in the larger r/cfb poll, I mean). I get it, they lost the head to head, at home, no less. But Oklahoma seems to be coming off the rails a bit, whereas Ohio State seems to be making huge strides on both sides of the ball (except you, special teams.) Computer polls back that up, with Ohio State #8 in Massey's Composite and Oklahoma at #18. Are we looking at a 2014 style Buckeye resurgence here?
Miami Hurricanes They needed some last second heroics against a scrappy Florida State team (that I still think is good, 1-3 record and some serious misfortune be damned, RIP Francois) but this is still a great looking team. They get the nod into the top 10 over Oklahoma State purely be unblemished record.
Oklahoma State Cowboys The Cowboys got the privilege of watching their rivals take a hilarious L on their off week.
Oklahoma Sooners Ouch, what a rough way to have your hype train derailed. A loss to Iowa State is obviously not ideal, and the team is having some problems that are becoming apparent, and they better shape up fast because the Big XII gauntlet of Tech, Oklahoma State, and TCU in consecutive weeks is gonna be brutal.
USC Trojans USC took care of business. The Wazzu loss has some pretty good #QualityLoss material right now though.
Auburn Tigers I'm still struggling to buy into the Tigers as a top 10 team. Computer polls are even harsher than I am, with Massey slotting them at a paltry #16.
Virginia Tech Hokies Took care of BC. Huge showdown with the Hurricanes in a few weeks.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish [Quality Lossing intensifies] also holy shit computers are all about the Irish.
Michigan Wolverines lol. Okay but in seriousness, this was about as ugly a loss as they come. 5 turnovers, losing your starting quarterback for the year, losing to an unranked RIVAL at home. I'd enjoy the schadenfreude a bit more if I didn't know what a terrible looking one score home loss in shitty weather to Michigan State felt like. The Wolverine defense is elite (as evidenced by the scoreline despite their offense being a turnover machine) but that offense is gonna make it hard for them to beat other elite teams (as evidenced by their offense being a turnover machine.)  It's also important to note that the weather may make this look worse than it really was. I know all about shitty weather games.
UCF Knights This team is looking like absolute fire right now.
San Diego State Aztecs With Stanford looking good again, the Aztecs win over them looks even better.
NC State Wolfpack The Wolfpack made a mockery of Louisville and look like a damn good team right now.
USF Bulls The Bulls were probably nervously watching the Knights assblast Cincy this weekend.
Stanford Cardinal Stanford is slowly creeping their way back up after a nailbiter against Utah.
Texas Tech Red Raiders RIP Kansas. This is a fun team.
Michigan State Spartans Was not expecting a Michigan State victory this weekend, but boy am I thankful for it. So I still think Michigan is the better team. I know I'll get shit for thinking that, given the head to head and all. Believe me, I'd like to say otherwise. But Michigan turned the ball over 5 times, and MSU still only eeked a 4 point win. Turnovers aren't the hallmark of a good team obviously, but it's not really typical of Michigan to turn the ball over the much, and the Spartans didn't really capitalize a whole lot. Weather may have played a role, but my point is that I'm not buying into the MSU hype machine just yet.
Navy Midshipmen Navy is undefeated, despite a very close contest with Air Force. They'll need to be better if they want to make a run at the AAC.
