A
tricky ranking for sure. FSU still has one of the 5 or 6 most talented teams
in the nation, regardless of their abomination of a 2017 season. The offense,
while probably not becoming elite overnight, should still take tremendous
leaps forward moving to a run-dominant system with plausibly one of the 3-4 best RB duos in the nation in Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick. Quarterback play will also
likely see a large improvement, no longer relying on a true freshman to
execute a notoriously difficult pro style scheme. Defensively, moving on from
Charles Kelly at DC should make all the difference. Despite losing 7
starters, the Seminoles starting 11 will likely comprise two 5-star defensive
linemen and two 5-star corners, with 5 of the remaining 7 positions filled by
top-100 nationally ranked recruits. Inexperience with system overhauls (and a
killer slate - playing Notre Dame, Clemson, Miami & Virginia Tech)  will likely cost them 3 games or so. This
is largely a guess of what talent can mature into in one year without
dysfunctional coaching overruning the gameday results. |

I think Francois is a pretty good qb. If he plays well, this team should be a lot better than they were last year. People forget they were in that Alabama game before he went down. Then they stunk.  |

You know a program is doing something right when their worst season in 40 years still results in going to a bowl*. This roster is still loaded, but it's not without holes. The o-line always seems to be a concern in Tallahassee despite always having a wealth of talent; we'll have to see if this year's line lives up to its potential. Cam Akers is a potential star at RB and the rest of the skill positions are solid. The defense is what really makes FSU dangerous though. DEs Brian Burns and Joshua Kaindoh will find themselves in opposing offense's backfields quite often, and Demarcus Christmas is a potential breakout candidate on the inside. The LB corps will have three guys with little to no experience but, being that this is FSU we're talking about, they're obviously all talented. The secondary has more starter-quality guys than you can count, but the one who really stands out is All-American hopeful Levonta Taylor. My final Seminoles record prediction: 9-3. I have FSU winning the games they should and losing the ones that, at this point, they look to be underdogs in. |

FSU is way too talented to be a 7-6 team again. They will be a top-25 quality team at least but probably will not make it past Clemson in the Atlantic |

They've got the talent to be good (at least by recruiting rankings). Last year gave them depth. This year could either be another year outside the top 25 or they'll be solidly in the top 15. |

I think Taggart and the Seminoles can and will surprise people this year.  |

Showed up strong for bowl season, but still ended the season 7-6. They have a ton to prove, but if they can get their ducks in a row they have the talent to make it happen. |

Last year was a disaster for FSU, but Taggart inherits a situation that would make most new coaches envious. I think they're a year away from being great again, but a lot of talented young players make the Seminoles dangerous. |

Very talented team.  I don't think Taggart is as good a coach as many seem to think he is but that might be some homerism. |

FSU is not the football team they were last year, and I think we all know that. They should come out this year with an invigorated offense and a healthy defense. FSU is another one of those teams with so much more talent than where they are ranked, but until we see how Taggart coaches in big time games with big time players and how they respond to the nightmare of last year, they stay low in my 25 |

Taggert inherits an FSU team that had a BAD 2017 but has a lot of pieces in place to improve in 2018. They could improve by a couple of wins and surprise everyone, but at the outset it looks like they're the 4th best team in the ACC and on track for an 8-win season this year. An opening weekend tilt against VT will be a lot of fun in shaping the ACC race. |
