Texas defense looked absolutely terrible, so this win may not end up meaning much, but a road win at Texas still means something, especially when compared against wins over FCS teams and directional schools.  |

Went on the road and punched a (likely) very overrated Texas team in the mouth repeatedly. Won by 10, but easily could've been more as Texas scored 14 non offensive points. The Terp defense could be good, and the offense seemed just fine. Still very reactionary I know. |

lmfao Texas y'all suck. Good job, Maryland. They looked more physical and athletic than one of the most talented teams in the country, by recruiting metrics at least. |

You gave me great happiness before I knew what was coming for my own Aggies. You're being ranked winning in hostile (throwing trash, come on Longhorns) territory and putting up 51 points on a hyped P5 opponent. Great stuff! I originally had you at 14, but dropped you because you lost your starting QB and a defensive senior. Bummer, but I'm rooting for you this season! Thanks for beating that gross orange team! |

It's early in the season, so these last two spots will go to teams which I thought had the most impressive wins in the season. I think polls should be less sticky early in the season - it's simply not fair that a team who beats a ranked opponent on the road won't see themselves in the rankings because they started the year at #80. Maryland shocked Texas in Tom Herman's curtain raiser.  |

Scoring 51 points against a Big 12 defense is not a reason to be excited. But hey, Texas isn't back, so maybe Testudo is? |

Convincing win over a team that probably shouldn't have been ranked. Hill almost won the job in fall camp so I'm not dropping them for the Pigrome injury. Maryland plays a truly brutal schedule this year so they will need to do yeoman work to remain ranked with OSU, NW, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State all on the schedule. |

Maryland went on the road against a far more "talented" team and embarrassed them, despite losing their QB for a while. They've done more than most schools through 1 week. This is also kinda an honorary ranking for all of the bottom of the B1G, which suddenly seems pretty decent. At least one of Rutgers, Maryland, or Purdue is going to win against one of the top 4 B1G teams this year, and it's going to be awesome.  |

Is Texas back? Not after the Terps paid a visit to Austin, they aren't. It's likely Texas is just bad, but Maryland played pretty well, and who knows, they may give some B1G East teams a scare or two come Conference Play. |

Not going to lie, I /really/ couldn't find anyone I wanted to put here, so we'll go with Maryland on the off chance that Texas isn't terrible again. |

So I was originally reserving spot #24 for the winner of Tennessee-Georgia Tech. I just kind of assumed that they'd look decent enough for me to justify it as I scrounged for teams to place. Thing is, they both looked kinda sucky throughout, and then the team that arguably played better lost. Meanwhile, cheeky Maryland is over here, casually upsetting an extremely experienced, extremely talented team helmed by Tom Herman. And DJ Durkin, who I happen to think is an amazing coach, is in year two, and Maryland is actually surprisingly talented - 28th in the nation, in fact. They're not inexperienced, either. Sure, they lost like probably half their team to injuries in this past game, but whatever, it's been a long day and I just want to go to bed. So congrats, Terps, you earned this one. And congrats, Vols and Jackets, you made me do this. |
