They won ugly last year but they won - a lot.  If they can get the offense clicking they could win the SEC East. |

Here's a team that ended the season with a bit of a thud, but has lots of room for optimism with closer inspection. The Gators continue there total  overhaul from Muschamp's house of offensive horrors, and I expect this team to have some loosely formed identity ready forming a launching pad for 2017. New offensive lineman, new QB, new RB committee, new WR group; all of whom will be young and perhaps erratic, but should be a cause for optimism when compared to the Gators post-Grier output last year.Defensively Florida both loses a lot and returns a lot. Gone is human bowling ball Jonathan Bullard and an excellent edge rusher in Alex McCallister; returning are (by my count) five quality DLinemen who could still be one of the best groups in the nation. Gone is the excellent Antonio Morrison, back is Jarrad Davis and some talented albeit inexperienced guys behind him. Gone is first rounder Vernon Hargreaves, back is first rounder Teez Tabor. It's easy to see this being one of the 10 best defenses in the nation still, which can overcome a probably erratic offense and lead them to a 9-4 type finish. |

Another tough, confounding team to rank. I think they are slightly underrated by the AP. Florida's defense is world-class despite some lost talent. McElwain has had a year to recruit offensive talent to his strengths. I see an SEC East repeat unlikely, and the QB situation is just as poor, if not worse than Georgia's. 8-4 sounds reasonable as well. Don't ask me who wins the Cocktail Party.  |

If Jim McElwain's second year goes as well as his first, most Gator fans will be content. McElwain will not be. The defense will be among the game's bet this year. Expect the team to perform at a higher level on offense, if they can get the QB situation under control. |

QB play can only improve, and Florida having a good defense is one of the many constants in CFB lately. |

Florida is projected into my top 25 because of their #25 rank in the final CFB Poll as well as their raw talent. Florida ranked #16 in the 2016 247 team composite rankings. Perhaps, even more important their #9 ranked '13 recruiting class and #9 ranked '14 recruiting class should just be maturing into the leaders of their team. Timing and talent are why Florida makes this top 25 poll, where others may have left them out.  |

Should be 3-0 going to the game against Tennessee. They draw Arkansas and LSU crossover games and of course the rivalry game against FSU. Asking for ten wins again could be a bit much. |

Maybe it's the UT homer in me, but I just don't buy into Florida, and I didn't last season. With McElwain at the helm, you expect an incredible offense, but they could hardly muster a mediocre offense after Grier was suspended. Grier was everything for that team, and without them you saw the team's true colors. McElwain, a supposed offensive genius couldn't prepare Harris, so I'm not convinced of what he will do with Del Rio. Without great QB play, the Florida offense will not be too much to behold yet again. However, the defense continually made up for their shortcomings last season. I expect the defense to do that again. They're a good team, but I think they can easily and quickly prove that they aren't a top 25 team. I've got them right on the cusp. |

Florida returned about 60% on both sides of the ball but had a decent recruiting class. They get the nod at 25 this week, and can move up if they go on a tear this year. |
