T-Thugs 1 I generally believe the reigning champs should be preseason number 1, especially because I don't really put any weight in my preseason rankings as soon as there are real games to use to rank teams. Ohio State's offense should still be pretty nasty, and if they have even mediocre qb play they're gonna be a beast to deal with. If they beat Texas to open the season, they'll stay here for sure.

eclectic_tastes 2 Struggled between 2 and 3 but giving Ohio State the nod because of the defense. Been hearing scary things this offseason about Downs growth and the potential of this linebacker corps.

Zloggt 2 I REALLY don't get why the AP Poll doesn't just put the Buckeyes at #2. I mean, I don't really care (and roster and all that)...but like, since August rankings mean little by December, why not just bump 'em up a spot and make for some TRULY awesome ratings?

Charlemagne42 7 Repeating is hard. Really hard. Just ask Nick. The NFL supped heartily on the bounty the Buckeyes laid out from last year's team. What remains in Columbus are questions. I still have Ohio State this high because I think the program is fully capable of answering questions. They're just not in title-winning condition this time.

Real_TSwany 2 The reigning champs lost a lot to the NFL, but there is no team whose reloading ability I am more confident in than Ohio State. They're also still retaining key playmakers on defense in Downs, Matthews, Styles, etc. Their stacked WR corps will also give Julian Sayin plenty of weapons, and James Peoples as RB1A can and will carry on the lineage of stud running backs in Columbus.

Lefunnymaymays4lief 5 Still loaded enough to make a title run, but man outside of Downs and Styles that defense got absolutely gutted by the Draft/graduation. Not very high on the coordinator replacements either, Patricia’s schemes were often too complicated even for NFL players and Hartline’s 2023 OSU offense was above average at best, anemic at worst

quantum_jedi 6 Can the Buckeyes defend their title? History says probably not, but elite talent everywhere and returning experience are hard to beat. If Matt Patricia can field a decent defense then look for the Buckeyes to again be near the top.
