Dominant over Florida State; defense looked incredible.  I think Michigan is a better team than FSU, so I put ND slightly ahead. |

From here down to about 7th, it's a little tough to define. All these teams look about the same in performance, and their opponents looked all comparable in some of their performances as well. They're effectively their own little tie, but VT looked the most well-rounded in my opinion. |

Offense didn't do a whole lot, but with such a suffocating defense and five turnovers leading the way to a 21 point road win against a conference opponent has VT in my 'if the playoffs started right now' top 4. |

Went on the road to a tough environment at Florida State and completely dominated the game. Florida State did not look very good, so maybe this won't count as an impressive win later, but for now it's good enough to put VT right here. |

Virginia Tech is very real. The offense doesn't blow you away, but it's more than enough when coupled with VT's defense. They might have the best LBs in the country. The offense will get better as the year goes by (FSU's defense is pretty good FWIW) |

Walking into Doak for a night game against a powerful conference opponent is daunting enough, but the Hokies didn't even seem the slightest bit phased. 5 sacks, 14 tackles-for-loss, and 5 turnovers made the Seminoles look like nobodies. The VT Offense was also nothing to scoff at, but it seems the only squad FSU seemed to get it together for was the Defense. |

Well they played very well vs FSU. I still don't think they will beat ND or Miami. But other than those two teams, I don't see them losing a game. The FSU win was huge for their hopes of winning the division since Miami also has to play them, and I guarantee when Miami plays FSU it will be a completely different game, because no matter how bad or good they are, its always competitive. But VTech is clearly a top 3 ACC team. If they beat Miami this yr they'll be playing Clemson in the ACCG. If not, Miami will be most likely. Right now they deserve to be ranked ahead of The U, but we'll see for how long. |

Moved up two with a win @ FSU. Not sure where FSU stands (they were on my bubble watch pre Week 0/1) on if that was an impressive win or not, but VT looked good regardless and it could have been a bigger margin. Couldn't put them over Washington who lost close to a good Auburn team that was essentially a road game. Barring any unforeseen hiccups, they should be steady until playing ND the first week of Oct.  |

Bud Foster is top 3 defensive coordinators in the country in my opinion. Aranda, Venables, Foster. Their defense yesterday was downright impressive. That offense, on the other hand. Eek. If that offense improves, though, they're very dangerous. |

The Hokies had a big Monday night, beating FSU in Tallahassee 24-3. The young defense played really well, with 14 TFLs and 5 takeaways. The offense could have played better, especially in the second half; however, they did not make many mistakes, giving up no turnovers and winning the field position battle easily. Can't expect to get 5 turnovers a game, but the Hokies defense this game showed why Bud Foster gets a paycheck. The special teams unit also had a blocked punt for a touchdown. Virginia Tech's next test will be at Duke, but they should remain undefeated until October 6th, when they host Notre Dame. VT's three hardest games for the rest of the season are in Blacksburg. |

Extremely impressive defensive showing by Va Tech on Monday night against the Seminoles. Their defense was very quick laterally on most of FSU's quick passes outside, and they will probably still be haunting Francois's nightmares in the coming days. |

The Hokies won on the back of great defense and special teams last night, namely their punter did an excellent job putting FSU inside their 10 and 5 so many times their offense lived in constant fear of giving up a safety. Bud Foster's defense is the real deal and I reeeeally want to move them up more. Maybe in the next few weeks where they play cupcakes they can move up ambiently before kicking back into high gear with Notre Dame. |

VPI just had a three-touchdown victory against a ranked opponent. One could even make the argument that it was the most impressive performance of Week 1 for any team, although I'm sure that LSU fans would argue with that. I'm holding back on jumping the Hokies over higher ranked squads at the moment because Florida State did not look remotely close to being a Top-20 caliber squad last night. It seems clear and obvious that the Seminole offense is still learning the basics of Willie Taggart's system and I don't expect them to be competitive with any good teams for a while. However, if FSU rebounds to have a successful season, or if Bud Foster's outfit can make a big statement against Notre Dame on Oct. 6, this victory will take on added significance. |

I think Bud Foster is the best DC in the country, but before this season began I thought it would take a while to get this defense rolling with how much off-season attrition they faced. Then they held FSU to three points in their season opener. Now, a lot of that was probably due to FSU's o-line, but still an impressive feat by Bud Foster and the brand new Hokies defense. Ricky Walker is every bit as good as Christian Wilkins. Also, side-note: I have a ton of respect for Deondre Francois. He may not be one of the best QBs in the country, but he's definitely one of the toughest. |
