In a weekend where the SEC looked strong, WVU dominated Tennessee.  |

West Virginia is the only other controversial top 10 pick last week, and rightfully so. This is an unfamiliar spot for the Mountaineers. However, their win against Tennessee looked very dominant to say the least. If Will Grier was the only factor to this team, they would be in the mid-10s. However, that is not the case with this team. |

Looks like it will probably be OU and WVU at the top of the Big12 this season, and maybe TCU. Will Grier did his thing and easily took care of the Vols. |

Will Grier looks like the number 1 Heisman contender coming out of week 1 and should stay on that path for quite a while since WVU should be favored through their first 9 games. West Virginia has all of the potential in the world to go 9-0 before the three toughest contests on their schedule end their season. Maybe they flame out and go 9-3. Maybe they don't even make it there unblemished, but as long as Will Grier can look that good in every game, I think we might get two weeks in row of Oklahoma-West Virginia to end this season. I can't wait. |

+3 spots. Perhaps handling Tennessee isn't as impressive of a storyline as in previous years, but West Virginia looked good in their opener and have a favorable schedule ahead. |

West Virginia did what many expected them to, beating Tennessee soundly. Will Grier threw 5 touchdown passes in his return from a hand injury last season and should be a Heisman candidate if he stays healthy. WR David Sills also had a big day. The defense played well enough, but WVU's season is likely tied to its star QB. A non-conference game against NC State in two weeks will be more of a test for Grier and WVU than the Volunteers were. |

Perennial September national champion is great in September again. Tennessee couldn't do a damn thing against the defense. Even though it's just Tennessee, it's still refreshing to see from a Big 12 team. |

I didn't get to watch this game but Will Grier was as good as advertised and taking an SEC scalp - even a mid-tier one like Tennessee - is a great start to the season. Gonna be fun to watch the Mountaineers line up against the defenses of TCU and Oklahoma. |

Will Grier is going to get them far. They wooped UT. I think they're running the table until November. But until they start getting more wins that win isn't more impressive than VTech vs FSU or LSU, NDs, Auburns, etc. Its an uphill battle for them to get top10. But if they don't beat themselves these next 7 weeks I see them climbing pretty steadily until Texas, TCU, Okst, and OU, which is a fucking gauntlet to end the season! |

I was even lower on Tennessee than most people this off-season--I had them pegged as the fifth worst P5 team in the country. So a blowout win from WVU doesn't show me a whole lot, but wow did Will Grier and the receivers look good. Whether or not Kenny Bigelow would start to live up to his potential on the d-line was one of the biggest things I was looking for in this game. He looked like he might do just that this season. |

I feel dirty not moving WVU up after a win. The truth is I don't know if Tennessee is much better under Pruitt in year 1.  I would certainly *like* to move them up, but I can't find a spot for them that moves another team that doesn't deserve to go down after a win, down. I feel the same way about everyone not named Michigan I'm about to rank. |

7 is smaller than 14. WVU gave up 14 to Tennessee. WVU is lower than Iowa because of that. 26 point win though, still. |

Will Grier and WVU's big ass receivers lit Tennessee's defense up like a Christmas tree. That might have been an impressive achievement even 2-3 years ago, but the Vols were playing 3 freshmen in a new scheme. Defensively, Kenny Bigelow is an impact guy who will give a lot of interior linemen a bunch of headaches. Still, it's hard to say how good they actually are after a game like that. Consider this a "wait and see" ranking. |

Again, this is one of those situations where I'm not sure if Tennessee is bad (likely), West Virginia is good (also likely), or some combination of the two, but Grier looked good for the Mountaineers in their opening game. |

Really I should have had West Virginia ranked last week (whoops). Making up for that now. They pounded Tennessee, who is still an SEC team (whether the SEC wants to claim them or not). They flashed impressive talent and I want to see what they have going forward |
