Overall Rationale: Returning Production
| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Alabama Crimson Tide
|
Could be one of Nick Saban's best returning teams in the last 5 years. |
| 2 |
Ohio State Buckeyes
|
The offense, circa 2017 Oklahoma vibes. Jim Knowles is a great DC, he will have them humming sooner rather then later. |
| 3 |
Georgia Bulldogs
|
Reigning champs. Just reloading defensively, still bringing back a lot of production on both sides with a top recruiting class. |
| 4 |
Utah Utes
|
Tons of production returning from a team that pushed Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Best in the PAC-12 to start. |
| 5 |
Clemson Tigers
|
Very talented but questionable on the offensive side. Defense is loaded, let's see how they mesh with new coordinators on both sides. |
| 6 |
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
|
Lot's of new faces and lots of talent. Marcus Freeman in his first full season, fun schedule ahead for them. |
| 7 |
Oklahoma Sooners
|
Whole new staff, and still arguably recruiting wise the most talented team in the B12. We will see if it translates to success. |
| 8 |
Texas A&M Aggies
|
Very young and very talented roster. Elite talent littered across the board, but we will wait and see if it equals wins. |
| 9 |
Michigan Wolverines
|
Don't sleep on them. Returns a lot of good pieces that propelled them to the Playoff and a B1G title last year. |
| 10 |
Oklahoma State Cowboys
|
Returns a lot of solid production on offense, defense will be a question mark but Derek Mason was quite the hire. |
| 11 |
Oregon Ducks
|
Dan Lanning and the Ducks still have a lot of talent. Before Cristobal left he recruited very well, the cupboard is far from empty. |
| 12 |
NC State Wolfpack
|
Leary might be the best QB in the country not named CJ Stroud or Bryce Young. Lots of production back for a team that excelled a year ago. |
| 13 |
Baylor Bears
|
Reigning B12 Champs from a season ago. Did lose a fair amount and will be breaking in a new QB, but Aranda will have them ready. |
| 14 |
Michigan State Spartans
|
Mel Tucker seems as a home run for Sparty so far. They did lose a lot, but also took in a solid transfer class. |
| 15 |
Wisconsin Badgers
|
On the outside looking in of the top 12, they still have a good amount returning and one of the better coaching staffs in the B1G. |
| 16 |
USC Trojans
|
Hello Trojans. They leap into the preseason top 25 with a highly ranked transfer portal class and a brand new staff. Depth and defense will be the questions year 1. |
| 17 |
Ole Miss Rebels
|
Replacing Matt Corral will not be easy, but The Lane Train is poised to give it a shot. Inked the top portal class in the country, but the SEC never gets easier. |
| 18 |
Kentucky Wildcats
|
Will Levis returns and the Wildcats are poised to make noise in the SEC East. Georgia is still king, but Mark Stoops has done a wonderful job in Lexington. |
| 19 |
Miami Hurricanes
|
Welcome Mario Cristobal, he takes over and he has Tyler Van Dyke to help get him up to speed. They have a lot to prove, and a lot of talent. |
| 20 |
Tennessee Volunteers
|
The Fighting Josh Heupels. Coach has done a tremendous job in the first season after the NCAA fallout from the previous regime, and will be a fun team to follow. |
| 21 |
BYU Cougars
|
One of the top teams in the country in total returning production. Seeing it the field is another topic, but they will have plenty of tests this season. |
| 22 |
Cincinnati Bearcats
|
A former playoff team from a year ago. Lost a lot to the NFL Draft, but managed to retain most of the staff. Fickell has been a proven winner, and Cinci will continue to win. |
| 23 |
Houston Cougars
|
Might be a quiet topic but the Cougs finished with 12 wins a season ago. They are top 40 team in production returning, watch out. |
| 24 |
Fresno State Bulldogs
|
They did lose their head coach, but with a new staff and managing to keep their roster intact for the most part will pay dividends. |
| 25 |
Penn State Nittany Lions
|
It was not pretty for Penn State a year ago, but this is a new year and they have all the talent to turn it around. The division should be more competitive this year. |
