Overall Rationale: Pre-season polls are hard enough to do without anything on the field. Coaching changes, draft losses, big season opening games and transfer portal gains/losses are the biggest weight carriers. No team note just means I felt placement wasn’t too out of the line of thinking of others. Note: Wake Forest dropped due to starting QB status.
| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Alabama Crimson Tide
| 2 |
Ohio State Buckeyes

Season opener against ND won’t pay dividends until the rest of ND schedule plays out to see how good they actually are. A 3 score win could put them at #1 for a few people though. |
| 3 |
Georgia Bulldogs
UGA lost so much talent it was hard not to drop them to 4 or 5, but the season opener against Oregon will be the decision maker for their placement in or out of the top 5. |
| 4 |
Texas A&M Aggies
| 5 |
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Season opener against tOSU |
| 6 |
Michigan Wolverines
| 7 |
Utah Utes
| 8 |
Clemson Tigers
Lower than a lot of other polls due to my opinion on QB performance uncertainty and loss of DC. |
| 9 |
Baylor Bears
12-2 team Returns 14 starters, 2nd behind Kansas |
| 10 |
Oklahoma Sooners
Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams loss may be too much for the National rankings but they can still win the BIG XII |
| 11 |
NC State Wolfpack
| 12 |
USC Trojans
Hard to ignore such an increase of proven talent acquired. |
| 13 |
Oregon Ducks
Season opener against UGA and then BYU 2 weeks later will be tough for a new head coach. Bo Nix’s time at Auburn has me skeptical. |
| 14 |
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Spencer Sanders returns but without major support in Oline and running game. Defense stayed great though. |
| 15 |
Michigan State Spartans
| 16 |
Wisconsin Badgers
| 17 |
Miami Hurricanes
| 18 |
Arkansas Razorbacks
| 19 |
Pittsburgh Panthers
| 20 |
Kentucky Wildcats
| 21 |
Cincinnati Bearcats
Season opener against Arkansas and possible win has me putting them over Houston for now. |
| 22 |
Houston Cougars
Schedule strength will be the biggest issue with them even if they win by double digits each game. |
| 23 |
Texas Longhorns
Sarks 2nd season comes in with a lot of talent and an hype to ignore having them be a top team. |
| 24 |
BYU Cougars
Baylor and Oregon in their 1st 3 games will be a good test for returning QB and solid Oline. |
| 25 |
Iowa Hawkeyes
With Wake Forest dropped out of my poll, this could go to any combination of future 8-4 team. Iowa seems the safest pick to end the season ranked vs Ole Miss, Penn St and Tennessee. |
