The level of play combined with their resume makes them the clear-cut #1 team in the country at this point. |

This game against Florida convinced me their offense was somehow underestimated by me and that their defense was probably slightly overestimated.  LSU will take the top spot on account of their elite resume. 42 points on 46 plays. Jesus fucking christ. |

Joe Burrow and his offense again showed that they can score on anybody, even an elite defense. Easy pick for the two spot. Although their defense isn't quite as elite as we're used to seeing. |

(337 + 0 -> 337; 2->2) A two-score victory over also-pretty-good Florida is marred by defensive questions and a slow-starting offense. Alabama, Auburn, and the rest of the West loom. (+0 ) |

I'm still not high on Florida because of the reverse-transitive property: I wasn't sold on Auburn, so I'm not counting UF's win as a big proving ground. If I'm not sold on them from that game, I can't be sold on LSU as the number 2 team. |

Quality of opposition notwithstanding, LSU and Clemson had very similar weeks. The defense was solid but unspectacular, the passing game was predictably strong, and the running game caught fire against an excellent Florida front. |

LSU could very reasonably be higher based on their play so far this season. Alabama are basically only higher at this point because of the amount of reverence I have for Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney but the Tigers' on-field performance thus far has been nothing short of spectacular. |

1/2 in Tier B: Want to rank LSU higher after win over Florida, but my computer actually had them in 6th, so this was the highest I could rank them given my tiers system. Some impressive looking teams ahead of them though. |
