Tier 3, These next 4 teams are pretty difficult to sort out, because on the one hand you have Penn State and Ole Miss, who have both lost to the two juggernauts in their respective divisions, one at home and one on the road, but have otherwise taken care of business and beaten the teams they were supposed to beat. Neither team has a statement win though (Ole Miss over Kentucky? Penn State over Auburn, Maryland?), and have benefited from generally playing the ass-end of the conference until they ran into said juggernauts. Then we have Utah and Washington. Both have two losses, with at least one of those losses coming by one score on the road, but both have statement wins, which I feel cancels out one of those one score road losses in comparison to a similar team, and it's pretty clear right now that USC is a better win for Utah than Oregon is for Washington, although beating a Top 10 Oregon in Autzen deserves some credit there too. It's a tough call, but I think I have to give the edge to Utah (best win of the bunch, while being average in the other characteristics compared to the other three). |
