Illinois stumbled against a Michigan State team distracted by the attack in the tunnel in Ann Arbor. Bret Beliema’s team had been getting it done with great defense and a powerful ground game. Neither unit were terrible, but they were nowhere near as good as they could be. The Illini are still on track to play OSU/UM in the Big 10 title game.

Because of how shit the West is, they somehow control their destiny in spite of 2 conference losses. However, I would not be surprised if we get a multiple team build-up of 6-3 teams at the top of the West standings and I'm not doing the stupid tiebreaker math to figure out who goes.

Somehow, Illinois' résumé is pretty bad despite them being 7-2. No notable wins (the best are over 6-3 Minnesota and 5-4 Wisconsin) and 2 pretty bad losses to 4-5 Michigan St. and 3-6 Indiana. Combine that with no high-quality wins and Illinois is clearly the worst P5 team with 2 losses. And I think it's pretty easy to see that they compare unfavorably to Texas.

Illinois has two losses so they might deserve a ranking over the 3 loss teams, but Illinois just doesn’t impress me. They don’t have a notable win over anyone as of right now and have two awful L’s. I didn’t want to drop them out completely so they just fall right here.
