Due_Connection179 Ballot for 2022 Week 11

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 7, 2022, 10 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Now that were past the mid-point of the season, it's strictly game film, opponents, and articles written for the games I either chose to miss or couldn't watch. My "Next 8 Out" are (in no order): Baylor, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, UCF.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Last Week #1 vs #3 Tennessee Won 27-13. Georgia's defense was dominate basically all game (outside of the Tennessee TD drive with 4 minutes left). Tennessee was only 2-14 on 3rd downs and didn't break 300 yards (after coming in as the #1 offense in the nation). I don't see Georgia losing again in the regular season with how great their defense is, and the favorites now to play them in the SEC Championship Game are the LSU Tigers, so they don't even need to play Alabama this season. This Week at Mississippi State.
Ohio State Buckeyes Last Week #2 at Northwestern Won 21-7. I don't want to talk about this too much. It was pouring rain and very windy, so the Buckeyes are probably just happy to come out of this game with a win. This Week vs Indiana.
TCU Horned Frogs Last Week #6 vs Texas Tech Won 34-24. THE 9-0 TCU Horned Frogs are here, and are now set to make a CFP Push. With Alabama & Clemson dropping an unexpected game AND Ohio State & Michigan playing each other in a couple weeks, that means that TCU is in a position where they can go 3-1 in their last four games and make the CFP (as long as Georgia doesn't lose). Very excited for TCU's next few games because every week they are must watch now. This Week at #22 Texas.
Michigan Wolverines Last Week #5 at Rutgers Won 52-17. I don't remember the last time I've seen a team go into halftime tied or a 1-score game in their first six conference games and win basically all of them by 3 TDs or more. 1st Half Michigan is an unranked team while 2nd Half Michigan is probably the best team in the nation. I'm leaning swapping Michigan & Ohio State this week (TCU is my locked #3), and I might have to swap them depending on what happens on 11/19 vs #18 Illinois. This Week vs Nebraska.
Oregon Ducks Last Week #8 at Colorado Won 49-10. Just straight dominate over a bottom 10 team in the nation last week. This Week vs #20 Washington.
Tennessee Volunteers Last Week #3 at #1 Georgia Lost 13-27. They looked like the worse team the entire game. It will be interesting to see how Tennessee responds to this loss, but as of now they don't hold their CFP destiny anymore (needs a big loss in the Ohio State/Michigan game & needs an Oregon loss). This Week vs Missouri.
Ole Miss Rebels Last Week #9 had a Bye Week. This Week vs #13 Alabama.
UCLA Bruins Last Week #10 at Arizona State Won 50-36. An absolute devestating run game. 402 yards on the ground on just 42 carries (9.6 YPC) with 5 TD. The defense allowing 26 second half points to Arizona State is a little concerning though. This Week vs Arizona.
USC Trojans Last Week #11 vs California Won 41-35. USC has now three games against unranked teams that ended in a one score game, but this is probably the worst one with them being at home. It was hard for me to put them over Clemson, but with their only loss being a 1-pt road loss to a top 15 team, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. This Week vs Colorado.
Clemson Tigers Last Week #4 at Notre Dame Lost 14-35. They were my pick to be upset this week and they came through for me. At no point during the game did I think that Clemson had a realistic chance of winning, and it's because their QB once again had under 5.0 yards per attempt. I'm guessing that Clemson will be heavily involved in the QB transfer portal because finally their elite defense gave way in the 4th quarter. This Week vs Louisville.
LSU Tigers Last Week #17 vs #7 Alabama Won 32-31 in OT. LSU had no business taking this game to OT. They were outgained by 100 yards. Alabama was 8-18 on 3rd/4th down conversions to LSU's 5-12. However, LSU had fewer penalites and capitalized on Alabama's inability to do anything in the first half. LSU's 2-pt conversion in OT to win the game is probably a top 3 play so far this season, and honestly I'm just happy we won't see Alabama in the CFP again this season. This Week at Arkansas (with a chance to clinch the SEC West if they win & Ole Miss loses to Alabama).
North Carolina Tar Heels Last Week #18 at Virginia Won 31-28. Never would've guessed that UNC would've been the undefeated ACC Coastal team with a chance to clinch the division in their 10th game of the season, but here we are. The teams in the top 12 are the ones with a seemingly realistic chance at making the CFP, and that's why UNC is here. If they somehow win out (at #24 Wake Forest, vs Georgia Tech, vs #17 NC State then the ACC Championship vs #10 Clemson) then you could see a sneaky UNC in the CFP. This Week at #24 Wake Forest.
Alabama Crimson Tide Last Week #7 at #17 LSU Lost 31-32 in OT. All I can say is that it's nice to see the King fall with 3 games left in the season. This Week at #7 Ole Miss.
Utah Utes Last Week #13 vs Arizona Won 45-20. Really didn't help their cause that LSU upset Alabama and that UNC pulled out against Virginia. Both of those teams plus a now 2-loss Alabama have better chances at the CFP and that's why they dropped 1 spot this week after winning by 3 scores over Arizona. This Week vs Stanford.
Tulane Green Wave Last Week #14 at Tulsa Won 27-13. Basically repeat what I said for Utah here + add in the fact that their best win looks a little worse now that Kansas State lost again. They are still the best G5 school (by far now) but with both UCF & Cincinnati in the next three weeks, that will be tested. This Week vs UCF.
Penn State Nittany Lions Last Week #22 at Indiana Won 45-14. My reasonings will start getting shorter here because it doesn't really matter from #16 on anymore (just FYI). Sold Win over a subpar Indiana squad. This Week vs Maryland.
NC State Wolfpack Last Week #24 vs #16 Wake Forest Won 30-21. Honestly a bigger upset than most realize, so a very solid win late in the year for the Wolfpack. This Week vs Boston College.
Illinois Fighting Illini Last Week #12 vs Michigan State Lost 15-23. Pretty disappointed by them this past week, but they still hold their own destiny for the B1G West. This Week vs Purdue.
Liberty Flames Last Week #25 at Arkansas Won 21-19. Got scary in the 4th quarter for the Flames, but solid win over a pretty good Arkansas team on the road. Remember that because Liberty is an Independent that means they aren't challenging Tulane for best G5 team. This Week at UConn.
Washington Huskies Last Week NR vs #19 Oregon State Won 24-21. Hot take, I think Washington has the best QB in the Nation. Solid win over a good Oregon State team. This Week at #5 Oregon.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Last Week NR vs #4 Clemson Won 35-14. What a turn around by Notre Dame since losing to both Marshall & Stanford at home this season. This Week vs Navy.
Texas Longhorns Last Week NR at #15 Kansas State Won 34-27. Great road win by Texas and the Longhorns now hold their own destiny for the B12 Championship Game. This Week vs #3 TCU.
Kansas State Wildcats Last Week #15 vs Texas Lost 27-34. Very disappointing loss by Kansas State and their outside CFP hopes are now gone. On the bright side, as long as TCU beats Texas this week they still have the best chance at meeting TCU again in the B12 Championship Game. This Week at Baylor.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Last Week #16 at #24 NC State Lost 21-30. The last of the disappointing losses this week. I was very high on the Demon Deacons going into last week and almost made them my "lock of the week" to win. Still have them top 25, but it's a tight rope the rest of the season. This Week vs #12 UNC.
Florida State Seminoles Last Week NR at Miami Won 45-3. Destruction. That's what happened last week when they visited Miami. This Week at Syracuse.
