Overall Rationale: Look, it's only Week 1 and my title pick, Clemson, has already lost; I pride myself on having a resume-based poll. By nature, a resume-based poll only really comes to form once enough data points are available; thus, all I am really doing this week is ranking the best wins of Week 1 (and maybe Week 0). And yes, I already hear you, hypothetical reader of a reddit user's CFB poll, "But in order to rank Week 1 wins, you have to evaluate which wins are better without any other information" and yeah....you got me there. But ranking is fun and Week 1 was fun, so I don't care.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Florida State Seminoles | The most fun I had during Week 1 (outside of Monday Night) was watching FSU beat the brakes off of LSU in the 2nd Half. It offered some sweet validation for not being high on LSU this year and FSU looked utterly dominant after halftime, a title contender has emerged. |
| Duke Blue Devils | There is a strong case that Duke should be #1 in my rankings. After all, I was incredibly high on Clemson this year and low on LSU; so that would lend one to believe that Duke's win was more impressive...but, to be entirely honest, I think I'm still pissed at Clemson. That game was so bonkers...and while I'm not one to rely on the fluky argument (a win is a win), the dominance displayed by FSU gives them a slight edge over Duke for top win after Week 1. |
| Colorado Buffaloes | Yeah....we all saw. Nothing really to add, beating TCU on the road is a really good win. Have the feeling CU is going to become hated real fast due to the media coverage, but we'll see. |
| Wyoming Cowboys | Beating a TxTech team that was a lot of people's sleeper Big XII team lands the poopoo and peepee pokes at #4 |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | I've always preferred North Carolina to South Carolina, but didn't expect to see that on the football field. Are the ACC and Pac-12 the best conferences??? |
| Washington Huskies | I think Boise State is the best team in the MWC, so UW just beating the ever living crap out of them is one heck of a win in my book. |
| Utah Utes | Sun Belt Billy is a top tier nickname. UF might be straight up bad, but for the time being a win over a middling SEC team is good enough for the seventh-best win of Week 1 |
| Fresno State Bulldogs | You can't simply walk into West Lafayette and expect a win....unless of course, you're the Fresno State Bulldogs |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | WVU might be the bottom-tier Big XII team, but it's still a nice win for the Lions. Allar looks good and I'm holding on tight to my Penn State stock. |
| Texas State Bobcats | Similar energy to Fresno, but I think Baylor may be slightly worse than Purdue (and WVU)....still a crazy win though |
| Tulane Green Wave | Southern Alabama is poised to make some noise in the SBC and was a trendy upset pick coming up against Tulane...well, the Green Wave still look like the cream of the crop in the G5. |
| USC Trojans | San Jose State is upper-tier MWC, Nevada exists. Good enough for me. |
| Oregon State Beavers | Looked better than USC against SJSU but the Trojans have played one more game so get the slight rankings edge over the Beavers...did anyone have a better Week 1 than DJU? |
| Minnesota Golden Gophers | It wasn't pretty, debatably wasn't deserved, but a win over a conference division foe is enough to get you in the Top 25 for Week 1 |
| Washington State Cougars | Colorado State is top tier MWC and Wazzu housed them...the Pac-12 being really fun is very funny and...honestly, very sad. What theatre!!! |
| Louisville Cardinals | Conference win is the nicest thing I can say |
| Houston Cougars | I like UTSA a lot, so Houston taking business against them gets the Cougs ranked |
| California Golden Bears | Guys, Cal scored 50...UNT is pretty good for G5... Pac-12!!!Pac-12!!!Pac-12!!! |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | I think Toledo is the best team in the MAC, so way to go Illinois (thanks for not covering too) |
| San Diego State Aztecs | I think Ohio is the 2nd best team in the MAC, so way to go SDSU |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Conference win I guess...i dunno, it was gross |
| Tennessee Volunteers | UVA is probably the worst team in the ACC (Hello, Boston College)...but a P5 dismantling is a P5 dismantling I guess.....I dunno it's honestly hard to find 25 "good" wins from Week 1 |
| Oklahoma Sooners | They made Butch Jones cry. That gets you ranked. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Navy? TSU? Not really good wins, but sure you get ranked Notre Dame. EVEN IN SILLY INTERNET POLLS NOTRE DAME GETS OVERVALUED. |
| UCLA Bruins | Is Coastal still good? or is only beating them by 13 not a good thing? Don't know but UCLA is my sleeper team so Im biased for them until more information comes out. |
