The Spartans make a huge jump from unranked to top 10 in my poll with their win over Michigan. They changed the whole narrative of the Big Ten in one weekend. Their only loss is to Notre Dame, and now they have a very good win. I had Michigan 5th last week. Although, that resume really fell apart this weekend. Their win over Iowa was more impressive than Penn State's, mostly just because they never trailed. This could be a really good team.  |

The Wolverines can say Ohio State is their number once rival when they beat Ohio State. Until then, the Michigan State game is probably the most important game on their schedule year over year. |

MSU debuts at #15 thanks to a 4-1 record against otherwise 17-7 (70.8%) competition, along with big wins over #13 4-1 Michigan and #26 3-2 Iowa, in addition to a relatively strong SoS and lack of FCS opponents. I'm not thrilled my algorithm has them and Notre Dame both behind Michigan, but we'll see if that changes as the season goes on. |

Win @ Michigan and a loss to a pretty darn good ND team means that MSU has earned their spot in the mid teens. Oklahoma's ISU loss makes them and tOSU look worse by association, hence being placed below a team new to my poll.  |

Was not expecting a Michigan State victory this weekend, but boy am I thankful for it. So I still think Michigan is the better team. I know I'll get shit for thinking that, given the head to head and all. Believe me, I'd like to say otherwise. But Michigan turned the ball over 5 times, and MSU still only eeked a 4 point win. Turnovers aren't the hallmark of a good team obviously, but it's not really typical of Michigan to turn the ball over the much, and the Spartans didn't really capitalize a whole lot. Weather may have played a role, but my point is that I'm not buying into the MSU hype machine just yet. |

Yes, UM is above MSU. They were -5 in TO margin in the downpour and still nearly won. That said, it's still not a good loss. |
