hokies220 Ballot for 2017 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 10, 2017, 11:15 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Top four are who I'd put in the playoff. Won't be from the same conference. In the early season I won't rank teams that don't have winning records, and FCS wins don't count.

Rank Team Reason
Oklahoma Sooners Better wins than Bama
Alabama Crimson Tide But Bama is still Bama
USC Trojans Better wins than Clemson IMO
Clemson Tigers Best win out of the ACC/B1G
Penn State Nittany Lions First ones out right now, but a really solid team
Louisville Cardinals Purdue win looks a little better, UNC is awful but respect for scheduling two P5 games without a home game
South Carolina Gamecocks Kinda the same as Louisville. Respect for the schedule thus far.
Michigan Wolverines Defense was incredible again, but can the defense carry the team once conference play starts?
Georgia Bulldogs Got the win in South Bend. Likely overhyped, but I'm fine with them here.
UCLA Bruins No first half slump this game and dominated throughout.
Iowa Hawkeyes Also overhyped at 11, but they get the nod over the next few teams for the slightly tougher schedule thus far.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Haven't looked bad at all yet, the only complaint is they haven't faced a challenge yet. Which is actually a compliment because I think Tulsa could win 9 games.
Wisconsin Badgers Struggled a lot more than expected against FAU, but the Badgers still won by three possessions.
Colorado Buffaloes The competition hasn't been the greatest, but the defense hasn't given up a TD yet and the offense does enough to win. They open up conference play with Washington in a few weeks though.
Duke Blue Devils Completely dominated Northwestern, which many people had as a B1G West darkhorse, should put up 50 on the dumpster fire that is Baylor.
Maryland Terrapins Above VT just because of the win on the road by larger margin of victory.
Virginia Tech Hokies Won 27-0 but the game felt closer. Maybe it's only my own pessimism, but I've lost a bit of confidence after this game.
TCU Horned Frogs Well there's some QB issues left to sort out, but TCU has the talent to maybe challenge the top of the conference.
Oregon Ducks Nearly pulled a TAMU against Nebraska, but luckily only lead by 28 not 34. I'm not sure how the team played so flat in the second half, but it's gotta be a concern going forward.
LSU Tigers Well the BYU lost some value, but I'd still call LSU a top 20 team.
Tennessee Volunteers Performed as expected against the FCS cupcake.
Washington State Cougars Honestly surprised they came back from 21 points down in the fourth and managed not to coug it in OT. Coupled with the shutout last week, even if it's just FCS, and Wazzu might actually be a different team this year.
San Diego State Aztecs Penny went off, which should've been expected. They play Stanford this week.
Vanderbilt Commodores The week 1 win is why they are here now. They beat MTSU by 20+ who then went and beat Syracuse on the road.
Washington Huskies Y'all can thank Rutgers for this. Paper soft schedule isn't going to do you any favors. I actually tossed a coin for this spot between Washington and Illinois because Illinois does have better wins right now and it just happened to land in the Huskies favor.
