Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Oct. 27, 2026, 10:57 a.m.
Overall Rationale: I heavily weight current-season performance, opponent quality, game control, efficiency, margin, and the eye test, while using prior-season performance, returning talent, and preseason expectations only as supporting evidence of underlying team strength. Wins and losses are evaluated in context: a strong performance against an elite opponent can be more informative than a dominant win over a weak opponent, while a competitive loss to a great team can be more valuable than an unimpressive win over a mediocre one. Conversely, a poor performance against a weak opponent is meaningful negative evidence. Other supporting evidence: quarterback play and performance in high-leverage situations.
Goal: rank who I believe are the best teams right now.
| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Miami Hurricanes
|
Best overall resume among the unbeaten teams. The Clemson win and 52–23 demolition of Pittsburgh are strong statements, and Miami has avoided the damaging upset that has caught other contenders. |
| 2 |
Ohio State Buckeyes
|
Still looks like one of the best teams in the country and now has 2 quality wins vs Iowa and Indiana. The narrow road loss to Texas is understandable, but Miami’s unbeaten resume earns the edge. |
| 3 |
Utah Utes
|
Unbeaten with quality wins and a strong defensive performance against Houston. |
| 4 |
Georgia Bulldogs
|
Still has the quality wins to rank among the best, but the Auburn loss is a major blemish. |
| 5 |
UCLA Bruins
|
Undefeated, with a road win over Oregon and a 54–3 demolition of Maryland. The narrow Oregon result and closer games against Wisconsin and Michigan State temper the ranking, but the resume merits a top-five spot. |
| 6 |
Indiana Hoosiers
|
The defensive win over Michigan and competitive loss to Ohio State are strong data points. Indiana has earned this placement, although the narrow margins in other games keep them below the top five. |
| 7 |
BYU Cougars
|
The Notre Dame win is a marquee result, and the broader resume is strong. The double-OT loss to UCF is a substantial negative, but it shouldn’t erase the quality of the Notre Dame victory. |
| 8 |
Kentucky Wildcats
|
The LSU upset and overtime win over South Carolina give Kentucky two valuable results. The resume is good enough for the top 10, though it lacks the depth of the teams above. |
| 9 |
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
|
The Stanford blowout and other convincing wins demonstrate a high ceiling. The loss to BYU combined with strength of schedule caps their ranking. |
| 10 |
Alabama Crimson Tide
|
Still has enough quality wins to stay in the top 10, but the two losses separate Alabama from the leading contenders. |
| 11 |
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
|
The Louisville win and 38–14 road win over NC State are meaningful. A 6–1 record backed by real results. |
| 12 |
Texas Longhorns
|
The wins over Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Ohio State is a major result. However, the Oklahoma loss and broader inconsistency prevent Texas from jumping straight into the top 10. |
| 13 |
Texas Tech Red Raiders
|
The 37–24 loss to Cincinnati is a serious blemish, but wins vs Houston and ASU keeps Tech high. |
| 14 |
Ole Miss Rebels
|
The Texas loss hurts, but the Louisville and LSU wins still count. The strong Vanderbilt win was a good response, though the two losses keep Ole Miss outside the top 10. |
| 15 |
LSU Tigers
|
The win over Auburn is useful, but LSU’s own losses limit its ceiling. There’s enough quality to rank LSU in the top 15. |
| 16 |
SMU Mustangs
|
Dominant wins show real offensive upside. The Louisville loss and lack of a marquee result keep SMU in the middle of the poll. |
| 17 |
Florida Gators
|
Florida has enough quality to make the poll, but the losses and uneven performances prevent a higher placement. |
| 18 |
Houston Cougars
|
The road win over Kansas State is a strong resume point, and the close games against Utah and Texas Tech show Houston can compete with good teams. Those losses are evidence of competitiveness, not substitutes for wins. |
| 19 |
Tennessee Volunteers
|
The Texas loss is understandable, but the loss to South Carolina is damaging. Tennessee’s good results (particularly W vs Bama) keep it ranked, while the upset loss prevents a higher placement. |
| 20 |
Boise State Broncos
|
A solid record and a close Oregon loss make Boise State a credible ranked team. The resume is respectable, but it lacks the depth of quality wins needed for a higher spot. |
| 21 |
Arizona Wildcats
|
The blowout win over West Virginia and the win over Cincinnati are meaningful offensive results. The BYU loss and lack of another elite win keep Arizona in the lower part of the ballot. |
| 22 |
Cincinnati Bearcats
|
Great win vs Texas Tech and overall a consistent team. |
| 23 |
Wisconsin Badgers
|
The 24–7 win over USC is a strong statement. |
| 24 |
Northwestern Wildcats
|
6-1 without a marquee win. |
| 25 |
Oklahoma State Cowboys
|
The Oregon win remains valuable, and there are enough wins to justify a final spot. The Tulsa loss and uneven overall resume make Oklahoma State a borderline team. |
