Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 4, 2023, 10:59 p.m.
Overall Rationale: My ranking is a combination of expected results in hypothetical games against other ranked teams, as well as the actual wins and losses resume each team has, leaning more heavily on the latter as the season progresses. I approach the rankings as though there is a "true" ranking of teams and every week reveals more data. It's never perfect but by the end of the season there is a large enough data set that I can confidently conclude who the best teams are. I use FPI and other models for reference, but this is a human poll.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Biggest question mark coming into season was QB. Seems like they've got that figured out. Even considering opponent they looked really good. |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | QB and Oline situation is concerning. Defense looks good. Not going to hold a 20 point win over a conference opponent at home against them too much, in any case. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Best win of any team so far. Impressive. |
| USC Trojans | Week one showed some defensive issues, it will be interesting to see how they fare against high powered offenses like Oregon or...Colorado? Am I reading that right? |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| Utah Utes | |
| Texas Longhorns | |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| Oklahoma Sooners | |
| Washington Huskies | |
| Tennessee Volunteers | |
| Texas A&M Aggies | |
| LSU Tigers | Don't think the loss was as bad as some do. Game was still close 5 minutes into the 4th quarter before the wheels fell off. Still expecting this team to be decent, though perhaps not a CFP contender. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | Slow start, but the Badgers show a lot of promise. Test next week vs Washington State |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | |
| Ole Miss Rebels | |
| Oregon State Beavers | |
| Kansas State Wildcats | |
| Colorado Buffaloes | Second best win so far. Offense looks really good. Did not expect to be ranking them, especially not so soon. Sanders and Hunter are him and him, respectively. |
| Duke Blue Devils | Third best win so far. Dominant over a team I had #5 last week. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | Tough loss, but this team still has a lot of talent and should compete in the Big 12. |
| Washington State Cougars |
