Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Dec. 4, 2023, 4:46 p.m.
Overall Rationale: For the past two weeks, I've had my unusualness score torpedoed by Oklahoma State, and I am sick of it. Oklahoma State lost by a combined 68 points to two 6-6 teams. I had them at 24th last week, and that still wasn't good enough. Well, I've had enough. Maybe a 28-point loss to Texas will finally convince people that this is not a good team, but, at this point, I'm not holding my breath. I doubt many people will have Memphis ranked, as they were 44th last week on the backs of just two voters, but I do think they deserve some recognition. Memphis lost to three ranked teams (#10 Missouri, #16 SMU, and #17 Tulane, by my ranking) by a combined 21 points, which seems pretty good. They did beat up on some pretty bad teams, but I'm not really convinced that they should be as far out of the top places as they are.

I do not like Florida State. I do not overmuch like their fans as a whole. I do not like the Marching Chiefs, primarily because they play the same four goddam bars of music after every goddam play. But it's ridiculous that a Power Five team can run the table and be left out of the playoff. You're #3 in my ballot, FSU, but you'll always be #2 to me. |

I really doubt many people read these, but I think the Committee's problems stem from them just not being brave enough to put Alabama in over Texas. "But Texas beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa!" That's correct, and that is why Texas is even in the conversation for a playoff spot. Each team has six wins against FBS teams with winning records, but, as a whole, I'd pretty comfortably put Alabama's wins over Texas's, and tools like FPI seem to do the same. |

I think this pick, and Troy, will likely be among my most unusual for my ballot, but I think conference winners should make the top 25 unless they're exceedingly bad (sorry, UNLV). |

Toledo sneaks into the last spot here despite their loss to Miami (OH) in the MAC championship game. Splitting with the conference winner and losing your first game by two points doesn't seem like it should be enough to fire the Rockets into oblivion. |
