Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2023 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 19, 2023, 9:02 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter. Washington honestly has looked like the best team in the country so far this year, and they've climbed up little bit by little bit every week. I think one more week of Washington domination and Georgia/Michigan shakiness and I'll take the plunge and move them to #1. Ohio State also gained some favor by dominating a decent Western Kentucky team in a week where almost no one else in the top looked good. Texas and FSU both drop, Texas goes ahead of FSU because I'm high on Wyoming and think they're a significantly better team than Boston College. Wyoming is a criminally underrated team, and that performance vs Texas made me move them up. Despite the final score, the Texas-Wyoming game was more competitive than the Texas-Alabama game. Let that one sink in. Elsewhere, Alabama plummeted due to their horrendous performance vs USF. If Bama's opponent had been a top....70? team, they would've lost. Luckily for Bama, they played one of the worst FBS teams in the country that got 41 put on them by WKU (who Ohio State just beat 63-10). I thought I'd drop them out of the top 25, but Tennessee and Kansas State and Colorado and Cincinnati all embarrassed themselves and dropped out, so Bama stayed in. I was looking at resumes to fill out the bottom of the top 25, and Syracuse jumped out as being impressive, so they quickly got the #24 spot. But that #25 was impossible as every team left I really didn't want to rank. I eventually rewarded UCF for their road win in an extremely tough place to play (Boise State) and being dominant in their other two games. Everyone seems in love with UCLA and Iowa, and I really cannot figure out why. Iowa especially. They beat Utah State less bad than Air Force did, beat Western Michigan less bad than Syracuse did, and beat Iowa State, but Ohio beat them too. Iowa still can't score, and their defense is still elite. UCLA has looked ok but their only win of note MIGHT be the Coastal Carolina win, and even then I'm not sure how good they actually are right now. I'm expecting some big changes next week, as I really feel like 99% of teams are looking shaky to some degree, and I'm sure someone I ranked is gonna implode. UCLA, Iowa, Mizzou, Colorado, K-State, Air Force, and App State are just outside my top 25.
