Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 17, 2023, 6:57 p.m.
Overall Rationale: Resume based ballot utilizing MoV, SoR, SoS primarily with small amounts of eye-test involved when comparing similar bodies of work. Some bias from last season's results remain to give a starting point for most teams since we have such small sample size of games this season.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | Returning champs from last year, not a strong showing against SC but need more than that to be dethroned. |
| Texas Longhorns | Premier win against Alabama, and also interesting boost from beating a Wyoming team who took down Texas Tech. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Close game against BC isnt good, but a dominant win against LSU keeps them in the top 3 for now. Beating Clemson next week will solidify this spot unless they take a bad loss after that. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Havent played good teams yet, but crushing the teams they have played and momentum from last year keeps them in the top 5. |
| USC Trojans | Massive MoV boost but against horrible teams. Momentum from last year keeps them a bit higher than they might deserve, but not too many teams deserve top 5 over them. Defensive questions will pop up again this season it seems, and so far they dont have a ridiculous + turnover margin like last year to rescue them. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | An extra game compared to most teams with strong MoV boost. |
| Utah Utes | The win over Florida looks a little better after florida beat tennessee, but it could just be the SEC outside of UGA and Ole Miss sucks this year. For now, Utah seems to be struggling a little bit with QB situation, but until they lose, Resume has them decently placed in the top 10. |
| Washington Huskies | Exceptional passing attack, UW is probably a top 4 team, but they dont get a chance to earn a signature win until Oregon in week 7. Editors note: Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Ohio State doesnt look as dangerous as years past, but its early in the season and theres a good opportunity to prove themselves against ND. If they win, easy top 3 resume. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Unfortunately for PSU, even Iowa probably wont be an excellent signature win. High MoV helps this team, but it wont be until Ohio State that PSU will have a chance to break much higher than fringe top 10 resume. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Solid win against a decent Tulane team, and good MoV. Alabama and LSU in a row will be challenging, but both teams look beatable for Ole Miss this season. |
| Duke Blue Devils | Its odd to rank them this high, but they kicked the crap out of clemson and look not bad overall. |
| Oregon Ducks | Year 2 of Dan Lanning still has this defense looking mediocre most of the time when playing decent competition. THE ONLY TEAM WITH MORE PENALTIES THAN OREGON OUT OF 133 FBS TEAMS IS BOSTON COLLEGE, and it took a very opportunistic +4 turnover margin to scrape a win at Texas Tech. If this team doesnt DRASTICALLY clean up the penalties AND live up to its defensive potential, its going to be difficult against Colorado; if they dont after that, Washington will eat them alive. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Exceptional MoV against mediocre teams is enough for fringe top 15. Texas will be their first true test in week 6. |
| Colorado Buffaloes | Before the CSU game, this team deserved top 10 for beating TCU. They might still deserve top 10, which they can prove by beating Oregon and then holding it close against USC. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | |
| UCLA Bruins | |
| Oregon State Beavers | |
| Miami Hurricanes | Good win against aTm, but unfortunately aTm looks not good. TVD looks better this year so far, and Mario Cristobal may finally be able to prove hes not a BAD coach. |
| LSU Tigers | I actually wasnt as high on this team as everyone else to start the season, and the loss didnt look good. Still a talented team though, and theyll have plenty more chances in the season to prove this position completely wrong. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | QB play is a disaster while the defense still looks good. Texas is back too, so a loss to a probably top 5 team isnt the worst, but when youre Alabama, youre supposed to be top 5 as well... which they absolutely arent so far this season. |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | At least they score SOME points now. |
| Washington State Cougars | |
| Florida Gators | Loss to Utah (who didnt have Cam Rising), but win over Tennessee. Need games against other good teams to redeem themselves, which happens in the second half of the season. |
| Louisville Cardinals | Any number of teams could have been slotted in 25, dont think too hard on this one. |
