Midnight-Mustang Ballot for 2023 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 17, 2023, 5:14 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Strength of schedule is king for me. Who you beat matters. It also matters if you cover... which like nobody did this week so I guess it doesn't matter.

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns Texas didn't cover, and they certainly weren't perfect against Wyoming, but their win at Alabama remains the best win in College Football in my opinion. Texas also played better than another top 4 team from last week, and as a result they deserve to be in the top spot.
Georgia Bulldogs Did NOT at ALL play like a team that deserves to be number 1. No one in the top four looked amazing, and I still think Georgia is elite, but that was not a #1 performance.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan still hasn't really been tested, but look good. Failed to cover and just haven't shown me they deserve to be above Georgia or Texas yet. And JJ McCarthy looks terrible.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State beat a solid conference opponent in Illinois. I had them at 5 last week, so if FSU dropped and Penn State played well they move to four.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Sam Hartman looks like the heisman front-runner and I remain convinced ND will be in the playoff. Huge test against Ohio State next week.
Florida State Seminoles won by two against BC. come on guys.
Ohio State Buckeyes Notre Dame to me deserves to be above them. Debated about sticking them above FSU but I think it's too early to say. They get a chance to prove me wrong in South Bend on Saturday; and frankly that one's a toss-up in my book.
USC Trojans didn't play this week, so they didn't move.
Washington Huskies Moved up one spot due to Bama faltering. Look elite.
Utah Utes Solid win and their win over Florida is looking better and better...
Miami Hurricanes No change.
Oregon Ducks Steamrolled another non p-5 opponent, but i still didn't love that Tech performance...
LSU Tigers holy shit wtf even is a cowbell
Oklahoma Sooners Look like a good ball team, but they have yet to play a collegiate opponent.
Alabama Crimson Tide USF?
Florida Gators Tennessee is a great win.
Ole Miss Rebels Remain a solid team.
North Carolina Tar Heels 3-0
Washington State Cougars no change since last week
Tennessee Volunteers looked AWFUL against the gators, Milton simply is NOT "him."
Duke Blue Devils no change
UCLA Bruins 3-0
Oregon State Beavers dropped a bit because their win wasn't super convincing.
Iowa Hawkeyes IOWA SCORED POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wyoming Cowboys Beat Tech, only loss is to #1 Texas (against whom they played very well).
