cfbpeoplespoll Ballot for 2023 Week 4

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Sept. 18, 2023, 12:33 p.m.

Overall Rationale: First week of human “eye test” being favored over TARP and Talent Composite. There’s a balance between computer metrics and the product of the field through the first three weeks. Eye test can be defined as performance relative to the opponent played. Not every team wins in the same style, meaning a bigger margin of victory does not necessarily mean they are a better team.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Comeback win against a pluck SC team. First half looked rough but “old Georgia” reappeared in the second half. It’ll be tough to judge this Georgia team this season with a down SEC East and SEC overall.
Michigan Wolverines
Texas Longhorns Solid win against a top G5 team Wyoming. Played with their food a bit in the first half but pulled away later in the game.
USC Trojans Move up as a by-product of Florida State’s struggles.
Ohio State Buckeyes Looked good against a tricky WKU team. Their defense shutdown and good passing attack that may be more explosive than any offense they’ll see in the B1G this year.
Florida State Seminoles Struggled against one of the worst P5 teams that had 18 called penalties. The consistency is one of the biggest concerns for FSU this season.
Washington Huskies Over 700 yards of offense against a reeling MSU. Cruise control throughout and looks like one of the best teams in the country.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Penn State Nittany Lions Defense is absolutely legit, but the offense is a potential problem area. QB play is questionable and red zone offense needs to be a lot better. I expect PSU to be better as the season goes on.
Oregon Ducks
Utah Utes
Ole Miss Rebels
North Carolina Tar Heels Good defensive “get right” display against a poor Minnesota offense. Looked explosive against one of the best defense in the country. Needs to clean up in the mistakes to get on the FSU tier.
LSU Tigers
Duke Blue Devils
Oklahoma Sooners
Oregon State Beavers
Alabama Crimson Tide Poor offensive performance against a middling G5 team. QB play will need to be a lot better if they want to get into the playoffs.
Miami Hurricanes
Washington State Cougars
Fresno State Bulldogs The best G5 team in the country so far. Two P5 road wins including a road shutout of Arizona State.
Maryland Terrapins
Colorado Buffaloes Poor performance against a poor CSU team at home. The offense does not have good balance and the offensive line is constantly getting beat.
BYU Cougars Weird performances this year. Road win against Arkansas plus high returning talent keeps them ranked while similar teams might not be.
UCLA Bruins Next 10: 26 - Missouri 27 - Florida 28 - Kansas 29 - Syracuse 30 - Iowa 31 - Kentucky 32 - Tulane 33 - Clemson 34 - South Alabama 35 - Louisville
