Luarean Ballot for 2023 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 17, 2023, 10:07 a.m.

Overall Rationale: A couple of big upsets, and some way-too-close wins have shaken up my rankings more than I expected this week. With a lot of ranked match-ups next week, there'll be plenty more movement soon.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs (LW: 1, No Change)
Texas Longhorns (LW: 3, +1) Texas teams of years past would have dropped this game, after a big win the previous week. We'll see if this Texas team is different and can stay focused moving forward.
Ohio State Buckeyes (LW: 4, +1)
Michigan Wolverines (LW: 5, +1)
Washington Huskies (LW: 7, +2) Penix is an impressive player. If he can stay healthy, he'll be a 1st round pick in the next draft.
Florida State Seminoles (LW: 2, -4) I still believe in this team's talent, but you simply can't let Boston College give you a scare like that.
Penn State Nittany Lions (LW: 7, -1)
USC Trojans (LW: 8, No Change) An idle week for the Trojans. They've dominated bad teams, but they'll have to deal with a very strong PAC 12 soon.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (LW: 11, +2)
Oklahoma Sooners (LW: 12, +2) Red River Rivalry. Three weeks.
Oregon Ducks (LW: 14, +3)
LSU Tigers (LW: 15, +3) A dominant win to start SEC play. My favorite to win the SEC West.
Alabama Crimson Tide (LW: 10, -3) Yikes, that QB room. If they can't figure out a solution to their QB situation fast, they may be facing an upset next week against a strong Ole Miss team.
Utah Utes (LW: 17, +3)
Oregon State Beavers (LW: 18, +3)
Washington State Cougars (LW: 19, +3)
Ole Miss Rebels (LW: 21+4)
North Carolina Tar Heels (LW: 23, +5) A great game against a very good Minnesota defense. Maye continues to show why he's a top prospect for the next NFL Draft.
Tennessee Volunteers (LW: 9, -10) I'm not ready to drop this team from the rankings with the amount of talent they have, but things aren't looking good if that's the type of showing they're going to have in SEC play.
Miami Hurricanes (LW: 20, No Change)
Duke Blue Devils (LW: 24, +3) I know it was against a bad Northwestern team, but Duke continues to put up very strong performances. I'm anticipating that they'll repeat this performance next week against UConn. We'll have more answers on just how good Duke is when they play Notre Dame in a couple weeks.
UCLA Bruins (LW: 22, No Change)
Tulane Green Wave (LW: 25, +2) If this team had Pratt in at QB last week, I think they beat Ole Miss. Despite being 2-1, I still believe that Tulane is the best team in the G5, and the favorite for the NY6 bowl spot.
Colorado Buffaloes (LW: 16, -8) Colorado faces extremely tough competition in the next couple weeks, with games against both Oregon and USC. If they want to have even a slight chance of winning either of those matchups, they can't play the way they did at Colorado State.
Missouri Tigers (LW: UR, UR) A good win against a strong Kansas State team gets Missouri in the top 25, but if they want to stay ranked they can't let Memphis hang around like they did with MTSU last week.
