JetoGrov Ballot for 2023 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 11, 2023, 6:52 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Trying to do a resume-based poll is difficult through two(and a half) weeks. Not really sure what I'm doing with this week's poll, but as the season progresses it will take form nicely. Mostly, this week, I separated teams by who has/hasn't played an FCS team so far. Obviously I don't think Utah is the 4th best team in the nation, but thus far I feel they have the 4th best resume.

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns THEYRE BACK!! Best win anyone has on the season so far. Hook em I guess. Also, the Rice win somehow looks better now lol
Florida State Seminoles Still have the LSU win, and thudded a G5 team.
Colorado Buffaloes Two P5 wins (though one of them is Nebraska...which....yeah, making fun of Nebraska just feels mean now...at least they had the 90s). Like the rest of the nation, I'm just excited to see how this plays out.
Utah Utes Technically...TECHNICALLY! Utah has two P5 wins...but, uh, we all saw who they are.
North Carolina Tar Heels Almost losing to App State isnt the same as losing to App State, and while it feels wrong to have UNC this high, I'd argue wins over SCar and App are a better pair than almost any other team in the nation.
Miami Hurricanes Ranking Miami this high does mean that I valued TXA&M as a good team (funnily enough, half of my top 6 is there because of wins over SEC West teams), we'll have to see how the remainder of the season plays out to see if beating A&M is actually worth much...still was a thorough outclassing
USC Trojans 3-0 against 3 FBS teams (though Nevada really acting like it aint). I'm probably too high on them because none of the wins are what anyone would call quality, but oh well.
Washington State Cougars Thrashed Colorado St, controlled the BADgers; ole crimson's last stand is going well
Washington Huskies UW looks....um....like, really good. Was Penix always this good? Wins over Boise and Tulsa aren't too marquee so the Huskies land 9th.
Oklahoma Sooners Made Butch Jones cry, beat an ACC team (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...i'm just as tired of that joke as you are, dear reader)
UCLA Bruins UCLA is going to go 9-3 and ruin someone's playoff hopes
Iowa Hawkeyes I don't know why Iowa is this high either, 2 wins against 2 FBS teams...ranking teams at this time of year is hard, LOOK AWAY
Minnesota Golden Gophers Same as Iowa
UCF Knights Same as iowa
Rutgers Scarlet Knights Same as Iowa
Duke Blue Devils Duke gets knocked this low because half of their wins are over FCS teams, the other half are against the team I thought was going to win the natty (oof)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish NCSt and ND should become an annual rivalry....I'll be picking ND to beat tOSU...just hope that doesn't become too trendy
Oregon Ducks Winning in Lubbock lands the Ducks in the Top 20
Ole Miss Rebels I HATE YOU OLE MISS, YOURE FRAUDS, YOURE ALWAYS FRAUDS...BUT YOU BEAT TULANE (probably the best G5 team) SO YOU GET RANKED....BUT I DONT LIKE IT
Wyoming Cowboys Also beat TxTech...how many more Red Raider losses before that's not a cool thing?
Cincinnati Bearcats Winning at Pitt (ON THE C Dubya) was something I really didn't expect...also their FCS win isn't half bad ( as far as FCS wins go) considering EKU could have beaten Kentucky this weekend
Kansas Jayhawks Kansas looks good again...Lance is a hell of a coach
Penn State Nittany Lions Delaware is a good FCS team (or so I'm told) but it still means that half of Penn State's resume is meaningless so to the back of the line they go
Oregon State Beavers Beavs look good (hehehehe)
Fresno State Bulldogs ALMOST LOSING TO EASTERN WASHINGTON ISNT THE SAME AS LOSING TO EASTERN WASHINGTON....just here cause the win @Purdue...doubt the bulldogs re-appear in the top 25.
