manbeardawg Ballot for 2023 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 10, 2023, 10:36 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Undefeateds only for now

Rank Team Reason
Florida State Seminoles I know it's just Southern Miss, but that was a demolishing performance. Best on-field resume in the country right now, IMO.
Michigan Wolverines Surprised I haven't dropped them out of the top 5 yet; if they only have a 30 point differential against Bowling Green next week, they'll be out of my top 10 for sure.
Duke Blue Devils Solid handling of the Leopards on Saturday. Their September 30th matchup with Notre Dame can't get here soon enough!
Ohio State Buckeyes Surprised/not surprised that they didn't really pull away from Youngstown State. As with Duke ahead of them, the matchup with the Irish looms large on the calendar.
Georgia Bulldogs Do these guys even know how to play football in the first quarter? If they keep coming out flat for the first 15 minutes, I project a 7-5 finish for the Dawgs.
Texas Longhorns Sark/Ewers 2024, amirite?!!! What a game, and a well-earned bump in the rankings.
Penn State Nittany Lions The only reason they're not in Ohio State's spot on my ballot is because they let Delaware score 7 points.
Tennessee Volunteers Why are they still a top 10 team with a close score against Austin Peay? I think I may be drinking moonshine again. My gut is telling me Billy Napier is going to eat Smokey in the Swamp next week...
USC Trojans Three dominating performances (against mediocre teams) in a row. Lincoln seems to have them chugging along quite nicely. Can't wait for 9/30 and their trip to Boulder!
Oregon Ducks Closer win over Texas Tech than expected. I expect clarity by the end of September after they've played Colorado and are into the meat of their PAC-12 schedule.
Colorado Buffaloes My gut tells me that Prime is going to have these guys in my top 5 before too long. I know it's just TCU and Nebraska so far, but they're playing some fun football!
Washington Huskies Good games so far; we shall see if they can keep it up against an angry/inspired Michigan State team with Dantonio back on the sidelines this weekend.
Utah Utes I liked what I saw against Florida. I was not a huge fan of the performance against Baylor, but they pulled it out and that counts for something.
Kentucky Wildcats The wildcats won't face a proper test until 10/7 when they head to Athens. Though, I could see Vandy sneak up on them before then.
Kansas State Wildcats I predict a victory in Columbia. These guys can play, and it's fun to watch.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Another dominant win. Excited for the Buckeyes to come to South Bend in a few weeks and clear a lot of things up one way or the other.
Oregon State Beavers Angry beaver vs angry cougar on 9/23 is going to be WILD.
Washington State Cougars Angry cougar vs angry beaver on 9/23 is going to be WILD.
North Carolina Tar Heels They beat a good App State team that I suspect will make an appearance back in my top 25 once the undefeateds get too few. I think this team has what they need to make it to Charlotte in December.
Oklahoma Sooners They rode the ponys hard and put 'em up wet. Lots of points, but can they play defense against a quality opponent? Time will tell (10/7).
Syracuse Orange I must admit I haven't watched a single Orange snap this year. But I can't ignore a 113-7 point differential over the first two games. Maybe the spoilermakers will do something this weekend?
BYU Cougars Can the cougers pick-off an Arkansas team that I wanted badly to rank this week? I'm lucky this one will settle itself come Saturday.
Kansas Jayhawks Solid game against Illinois this week. I fully expect the Jayhawks to beat Texas on 9/30.
Iowa Hawkeyes The victors of El Assico deserve to be ranked (until they don't).
Michigan State Spartans They're undefeated and just shed their most useless asset (their head coach, Mel Tugger). Dantonio is returning to the sidelines as an (Associate?) Head Coach, and I think Sparty is going to play some inspired ball. Let's see how this thing goes, shall we?
