noahthearc Ballot for 2023 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 10, 2023, 7:16 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia has cruised and nothing yet has indicated they're not the top team.
Texas Longhorns Texas now has the best win of the season. Consistency will be the next question, but it's hard to not think Texas can't play with (and beat) almost every team in the nation.
Florida State Seminoles FSU handled USM after their big win over LSU. Obviously tried some new things this week, but still dominated. The team needs to continue to show focus and not look ahead of Boston College to Clemson.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish The Irish have a strong defense and an elite QB. Their formidable and won't be beat easily. They're the top team in my power ranking (if only because they have three wins, they'd be third otherwise) and playing like a true contender.
USC Trojans USC proved they can play defense last week against Stanford team that isn't good by any means, but still a P5, conference foe.
Penn State Nittany Lions The Nittany Lions cruised, only dropping due to other teams playing well.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan is probably much better than #7, but they're in cruise control and not trying much with their easy OOC and missing their HC.
Washington Huskies The Huskies are impressive and could be top 5 if the field didn't look so strong this year.
Ohio State Buckeyes The Buckeyes look partially in cruise control, but partially still figuring things out. They could turn on the burners potentially and be a top title contender, but that's not how they're currently playing.
Oregon Ducks The Ducks left Lubbock with a win, but maybe more due to the Red Raiders doing than their own. Obviously a talented team, particularly on offense, but they need more to get through conference play.
Alabama Crimson Tide The Tide have all the makings of a title contender, except a reliable QB and O-Line. The SEC West hasn't played convincingly so far, but the Tide don't look ready to win the conference, which will be necessary to make the playoffs.
Duke Blue Devils Duke is highly rated in my power ranking (9th) and very well coached. They're talent-level will likely catch up to them, but they deserve a good ranking so far.
Oregon State Beavers Much like Duke, the Beavers are well coached and taking care of business. San Diego State could be tricky next week, but the real first test seems to be at Wazzu in two weeks.
Utah Utes The Utes both deserve a good ranking and don't. They narrowly left Waco with a win this week, but hey, they won.
Tennessee Volunteers The Vols look shockingly poor this week. They'll need to sort things out and play to their potential this week in the Swamp.
LSU Tigers LSU got their footing after a slow start this week. They look to be getting better and could still make noise this year.
Ole Miss Rebels Ole Miss pulled away against a good Tulane team on the road, certainly a good win. They'll need better O-Line play to compete for the West though.
Washington State Cougars Wazzu got their upset on Wisconsin and could be imbued with retribution to have a stellar year in the Pac-12.
North Carolina Tar Heels The Heels limped to another win over App State. Can't blame them too much for a win over an inspired team, but they need to play better to be able to compete for the ACC title.
Kansas State Wildcats Kansas State beat Troy convincingly in a good win. At Mizzou should show what the team is made of this week.
Oklahoma Sooners The Sooners pulled away from SMU, but showed some question marks on offense. They may have a great defense, though.
Colorado Buffaloes The Buffs may have put a nice score up on Nebraska, but showed some weaknesses. Conference play should show their mettle.
Miami Hurricanes The Canes got their payback win over A&M. The offense looked good, the defense may have some questions, but they showed good fight.
UCLA Bruins UCLA has beat their opponents, but oddly both well and not well. Too early to tell if UCLA can win the Pac-12 given how strong the conference is, but they deserve a Top 25 ranking.
UCF Knights UCF is another tough-to-read team with a solid first two weeks. They could make some noise in the Big 12.
