Meany_Vizzini Ballot for 2022 Week 11

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Nov. 6, 2022, 9:38 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Accelerated ELO Rankings

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs 35.2, +5.4 from last week, +1 position from last week, 39.1 (1st) in win/loss aELO, 31.2 (1st) in margin of victory aELO. The Bulldogs were in control from start to finish against Tennessee. They now have far and away the best record of any team.
Ohio State Buckeyes 27.1, +1.1, +3, 29.0 (4th), 25.1 (2nd). As more teams lose, a consistent Buckeyes squad has risen back to second, though they are still 8.1 points behind the first place Bulldogs.
Tennessee Volunteers 26.7, -3.5, -2, 30.5 (3rd), 22.9 (3rd). It’s hard to drop Tennessee too far for losing to the best team in the country. The Vols still have the 3rd-best adjusted record and margin of victory, according to the computer.
TCU Horned Frogs 25.8, -2.1, -1, 33.3 (2nd), 18.2 (7th). Losses by Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State hurt the Horned Frogs’ strength of schedule this week. Their margin of victory suggests that they are lucky to still be undefeated.
Michigan Wolverines 23.7, +0.8, +2, 26.7 (5th), 20.6 (5th). The Wolverines took care of business against Rutgers; no more, and no less.
Oregon Ducks 21.9, +2.3, +2, 25.0 (6th), 18.8 (6th). The Ducks’ blowout loss to #1 Georgia is the only blemish on an otherwise impressive resume. And that loss doesn’t look quite as bad as it did a week ago.
Alabama Crimson Tide 20.7, -3.6, -1, 19.3 (10th), 22.0 (4th). Their two losses are by 3 to #3 and in OT against #8. Despite having two losses, their margin of victory aELO is 4th, so they stay in the top 10 after a loss.
LSU Tigers 19.7, +0.8, +2, 21.7 (7th), 17.6 (8th). A home win in OT over Bama moves LSU up a few spots, but their margin of victory in other games isn’t quite enough for the Tigers to overtake the Tide in these rankings.
UCLA Bruins 17.6, +1.7, +3, 21.3 (8th), 13.8 (12th). Another UCLA win finds them in the top 10 for the second time this year. Margin of victory is holding them back from a higher ranking.
Clemson Tigers 17.0, -9.4, -6, 20.7 (9th), 13.2 (14th). After an embarrassing loss to Notre Dame, the ACC Atlantic bubble has fully burst, and a 1-loss Clemson finds themselves behind two 2-loss teams.
Kansas State Wildcats 15.5, -3.9, -2, 15.5 (14th), 15.4 (10th). Margin of victory kept the Wildcats from falling too far. K-State now has losses to #4, #12, and #21, with a dominant win over #17.
Texas Longhorns 15.2, +0.9, +4, 13.7 (20th), 16.6 (9th). The Longhorns vault up 4 spots after beating K-State. All three of their losses were close, so Texas’ adjusted margin of victory is in the top 10.
Ole Miss Rebels 15.1, -0.1, +1, 19.3 (11th), 10.9 (19th). Margin of victory is holding the 1-loss Rebels back, as their only loss was a blowout loss to the only currently-ranked team they have faced.
USC Trojans 15.1, -0.1, -1, 17.1 (12th), 13.0 (15th). Their win against Cal was another example of an unimpressive margin of victory against a lesser foe.
Utah Utes 15.1, +1.3, +3, 15.0 (16th), 15.1 (11th). A strong showing by Florida, coupled with a solid win over Arizona, saw the Utes climb a few spots.
Penn State Nittany Lions 14.0, +0.7, +5, 15.4 (15th), 12.5 (17th). After a dominant win over Indiana, Penn State takes advantage of poor games from teams above them.
Oklahoma State Cowboys 13.2, -3.9, -6, 14.2 (19th), 12.2 (18th). Yes, they have lost 3 of 4. But remember that this Cowboys team still has wins over Baylor and Texas.
North Carolina Tar Heels 12.8, +0.6, +6, 14.8 (18th), 10.8 (22nd). UNC moves up as others move down.
Florida State Seminoles 12.6, -1.6, -2, 11.5 (27th), 13.7 (13th). Despite winning themselves, Florida State moves down thanks to Clemson’s embarrassing loss.
Sacramento State Hornets 12.4, NR. Please welcome the first FCS team to be ranked by aELO! After defeating #6 Weber State, the Hornets are now 9-0. They are one of only 4 undefeated teams in the FCS and the only one from the powerhouse Big Sky Conference.
Tulane Green Wave 12.0, -2.5, -6, 14.9 (17th), 9.1 (28th). K-State’s loss hurts their strength of schedule immensely. While their win/loss record is good, their margin of victory is holding them back.
NC State Wolfpack 12.0, -1.0, -, 15.5 (13th), 8.4 (31st). Despite beating Wake Forest, NC State fails to rise due to Clemson’s defeat. Their margin of victory suggests that they are lucky to still be ranked.
Kansas Jayhawks 12.0, NR, 13.0 (21st), 10.8 (21st). The Jayhawks are back after beating the Cowboys.
Mississippi State Bulldogs 11.3, -1.1, -1, 11.6 (26th), 10.9 (20th). The Bulldogs escape with a win over Auburn, but they hold on to a ranking thanks to their margin of victory in earlier games.
Baylor Bears 11.0, NR, 9.5 (32nd), 12.5 (16th). Welcome back to the rankings, Bears! Margin of victory is the only reason they would even be considered for a spot in these rankings. Honorable Mentions: Notre Dame 10.7, Kentucky 10.6, Florida 10.6
