Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | UGA is undoubtedly the best team in CFB right now. It's hard to see them drop far after a loss to any other team if at all. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan is very very slightly better than tOSU simply because their wins have felt more convincing. They've been more adaptable to changing conditions and are able to run away with a lead at the right moment while instilling false hope in their opponent. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | tOSU is obviously a great team but there are some warning signs they probably need to address in order to overtake Michigan. Namely their tendency we've seen the past few games where they only run away with the score in what seems like the last seconds of the game (not quite literally). Per usual, tOSU's game against Michigan will be the biggest (and most entertaining) indicator of where they're both at. One could argue #2 and #3 are interchangable. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Ole Miss at #4 may seem abnormal, but I do feel like they've been tested thoroughly enough to know that they're solid. Not married to this ranking as it easily could also be UT, LSU, TCU, USC, or UCLA. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Yes, Tennessee lost to Georgia. Yes, a lot of the fluff around Tennessee was probably just hype. But in the context of other teams, I would still argue they're better than LSU, TCU, USC, UCLA, Utah, and others down the line if placed head-to-head. Not a top 4 team, anymore, though. |
| LSU Tigers | I could see LSU dropping in future rankings but also gaining. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | Putting my anti-TCU biases aside, TCU is definitely a quality team that should genuinely be scary to all. But they've also made themselves out to be vulnerable at times, and at some point I think someone is going to spoil their thunder and hand them a close loss. Could be when they visit UT next week. Could be when they visit their rival Baylor. If they win out (including CCG), they'll go to the playoff, but they need to meet those benchmarks first. |
| USC Trojans | |
| UCLA Bruins | |
| Utah Utes | |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | |
| Clemson Tigers | |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | |
| Tulane Green Wave | |
| NC State Wolfpack | |
| Texas Longhorns | TCU @ Texas will be very interesting and should be a tell-tale sign of where both teams are at. |
| Liberty Flames | |
| UCF Knights | |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | A weird team. Really weird. But they're in! |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | |
| Coastal Carolina Chanticleers | Coastal Carolina deserves to be ranked. |
| Baylor Bears | Baylor is #24, but not because of their overall record. They're #24 because they're showing strong signs of improvement-- that is, using the resources they've had all years more efficiently and effectively. Their win over OU should have been more convincing, but two weeks ago one could have predicted they'd lose that game. If Baylor continues this trend, they could go to the CCG if they beat either K-State and/or TCU, plus Texas (a must win). |
| Kansas State Wildcats |
