Hey_Its_Roomie Ballot for 2018 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 3, 2018, 10:19 p.m.

Overall Rationale: This ballot might seem egregious, if not for a few rules I implemented for myself. The purpose of these rules are to try and establish a "work shown" rating in the beginning of the season and rely less on expectations and hype of a team. Disclaimer: I understand that hype/expectations of teams will still be a factor as I consider who beat whom, and by how much. I can't find a solid way to remove it entirely, and will try to mitigate its impact. RULE 1: I'm looking at a mild W-L-T system where a tie is going to be considered "effectively ties" or other games to count for the record, but may not be rewarded as a total win. "Effectively tied" games are, for now, FCS games or games that go into OT regardless of win or loss. For example, PSU is not ranked this week, because they are 0-0-1 by this system. RULE 2 Since FCS teams are literally on a lower tier of playing field, I'm giving the assumption that they play on that level of skill, as opposed to FBS. As the season ends, I'll be re-evaluate the worthwhile FCS teams, and then give credit to those FBS teams for wins. For example, if JMU ends up being a top tier team again, as expected, NC State will receive a win rather than a tie. RULE 3 Early season is almost exclusively record. As a result, if you lose, it may take some time before you show back up.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama appeared to have the most substantial win of the week.
Auburn Tigers For now, this win looks great. It was close, and arduous, but it paid off for Auburn.
Virginia Tech Hokies From here down to about 7th, it's a little tough to define. All these teams look about the same in performance, and their opponents looked all comparable in some of their performances as well. They're effectively their own little tie, but VT looked the most well-rounded in my opinion.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Perhaps I'm giving them too much credit for beating what this Michigan team is, but only time will tell. But, an expectant 8-win Michigan doesn't leave out the idea that it is a solid win.
Northwestern Wildcats
LSU Tigers
Duke Blue Devils
Oklahoma Sooners Sooners outright crushed FAU and derailed the Lane Train for now. It's another game of raised expectations, but Riley is off to a fine start his second season.
Boise State Broncos
Ohio State Buckeyes
Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors Well damn Hawaii, you're 2-0. Not against the most powerful, but certainly not against any pushovers in my opinion. Hawaii might get a slight skew due to having played 2 games already, but that's why it's early season.
Wisconsin Badgers
Cincinnati Bearcats
West Virginia Mountaineers
Stanford Cardinal
USC Trojans
Washington State Cougars
BYU Cougars
Maryland Terrapins Well, they beat Texas again.
UCF Knights UCF's offense looked great, and it's nice to see my reservations about the change in staff seems unaffected on that side. However, UConn is nothing to get excited about, and as a result, they aren't rewarded very much.
Colorado Buffaloes
Oregon Ducks
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Michigan State Spartans MSU sneaks in with a surprising struggle against Utah State. Perhaps they are far more than I would expect from them, and Michigan State will prove its worth, but for now, they are scraping by.
Boston College Eagles
