A lot of bad luck went into their loss to Cincinnati -- UCF outgained the Bearcats overall, and some quirky turnovers hurt them -- but the biggest issue was playcalling. The Knights weren't able to effectively attack the wide areas of the field, even where they had matchup advantages. |

3/3 in Tier F: This placement is probably going to garner the most hate on my ballot. They lost a close game to Cincinnati and they are obviously not the same team with Gabriel at QB. Can't put them beneath Cincinnati based on my methodology. |

I swear I agonized over this selection. I really wanted to rank Cincinnati ahead of UCF this time. They would absolutely deserve it from a resume POV if this were a resume poll. But the computers, and myself, just can't get past Cincinnati's struggles against UCLA, which was as poor a performance as UCF's 1-point loss to Pitt. Cincinnati has nothing on their schedule like UCF's demolition of Stanford (the Marshall win lost some lustre with the Herd's loss to Middle Tennessee) and a 3-point UCF road loss in the H2H is pretty much a push when it comes to evaluating performance. It's close and this ranking could go either way but I'm going to defer to the computers on this one. |
