Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2026 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 9, 2026, 9:47 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. Michigan, Illinois, Utah, and Tulane all fall out after losses by Michigan and Tulane, a lackluster performance by Illinois, and Utah was just the unlucky team passed up by high risers. They were replaced by Boise State, Western Michigan, LSU, and Memphis, all entering this week's rankings. The top 7 seem to be universally agreed-upon, and this week just saw a bit of shuffling of them. Notre Dame stays #1 after a blowout win, and perhaps controversially, Oregon remains #2. Watching that game, I came away thinking that Boise is a top 15 team, not that Oregon isn't elite. Ohio State and Texas looked good vs weak opponents, but I couldn't justify moving either one ahead of Oregon for now. That will shortly change, as Ohio State and Texas will be playing this week. Georgia is last among the top group because they played an FCS team that would lose 50-0 to half the FCS. A 63-3 win is basically the same as not playing a game. Coming into this week, I had Louisville #14 and Ole Miss #15. Truthfully, watching the game, I felt like Louisville looked like the better team. But I respect results that are fair and square, so Ole Miss is slightly ahead, and I couldn't justify Boise State's ranked loss as better than Ole Miss's ranked win. Virginia was already ranked #21 for me preseason (cmon guys, get with the program!) and still impressed me a lot, so they leap up. LSU, who was unranked for me preseason, did get an impressive win vs Clemson, but I do not think Clemson is a good team, so I did not raise them to top 10 or anything crazy. #16 seems like enough. I didn't ding Washington much for their close win over Wazzu due to the rivalry aspect and the thought that maybe Wazzu is improved (they certainly looked like it). Congrats to Western Michigan, Memphis, and JMU on three big wins that will help all of their quests to make the CFP. Texas Tech I only bumped down one spot for their performance this time, as I think Abilene Christian is pretty good, but don't make a habit of it or you will drop quickly. As always, I'll have a comment on the release with more details, and don't forget to tell me how stupid I am!
