Dawg-Bite Ballot for 2022 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 23, 2022, 5:16 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Resume, record, wins, eye test, head 2 head matter.

Rank Team Reason
Tennessee Volunteers
Georgia Bulldogs
Ohio State Buckeyes Last week I had Ohio State at 5 because they don’t have any ranked wins or a win against anyone I viewed as even decent, and they still don’t after Iowa. However, the absolute dominance score wise and stat wise against Iowa despite not playing their best game forced my hand. The turnovers definitely helped, but Ohio State whooped them by about 3 times the score Michigan did, and I can’t just ignore that because Iowa is not good.
Michigan Wolverines
Clemson Tigers I value ranked wins and resume, and if anyone has Clemson I’m the top 4 I wouldn’t argue, but they slip down because of Ohio State moving up. Also, they don’t necessarily look like an elite playoff caliber team (even though they likely will make the playoff).
TCU Horned Frogs If Clemson’s resume and record warrants them a spot over Bama TCU deserves it as well.
Alabama Crimson Tide I would pick Bama to beat both Clemson and TCU on a neutral field easy, but the issue with rankings is sometimes the best teams lose games and aren’t more deserving than a team they would beat. Bama still controls their own destiny and I guarantee they’ll be moving up soon since some top 6 teams still have tough games left or have to play each other.
Oregon Ducks Bo Nix has improved so much under this new team. He’s focused, he’s having fun, he might even be a dark horse for the Heisman.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
UCLA Bruins UCLA has a better win than both Oklahoma State and Wake Forest, but I feel like they should be on the outside looking in on the top 10 after getting whooped the way they did.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Syracuse Orange I’m not punishing Syracuse for playing Clemson the way they did. Their loss was similar to Wake Forest’s loss to Clemson, and I don’t see a reason to move them down this week.
LSU Tigers LSU decimated Ole Miss, and they have a win over the same Florida team that beat Utah. LSU is getting real hot at the right time, and they still have a shot at winning the west.
Utah Utes
USC Trojans
Ole Miss Rebels I thought about keeping Ole Miss ahead of USC due to their win over Kentucky being better than an Oregon State win IMO, BUT USC didn’t get blown out by their 2 loss road opponent, Ole Miss can’t say the same…
Illinois Fighting Illini
Tulane Green Wave
Cincinnati Bearcats
Kansas State Wildcats I didn’t punish Kansas State too much for their L because of the Martinez injury, but I feel like a loss should keep them out the top 20.
South Carolina Gamecocks South Carolina has the head 2 head over Kentucky and now has their first win over Texas A&M. I wasn’t all that confident in this team last week, but they might actually have a good team this year
Kentucky Wildcats
North Carolina Tar Heels North Carolina doesn’t feel like a good team, but they only have 1 loss and managed to sneak into my top 25 because of some losses around them, plus they kinda deserve it now. Keep winning and they might find their way into the top 20.
Oregon State Beavers I feel like there is no other teams to consider for the 25 spot. NC State doesn’t have a starting QB anymore, Liberty hasn’t quite proven themselves to me yet, Washington has been riding the struggle bus recently, and everyone else has more than 2 losses. Oregon State’s only losses are to USC and Utah, and have been a dominant team since those L’s. For the first time this season I feel confident with almost 0 doubt that the 25 teams I have ranked right now are the best/most deserving teams as of right now.
