JB_Gibson Ballot for 2022 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 27, 2022, 8:18 a.m.

Overall Rationale: My prediction of how the season will end based off of week-to-week results.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Everyone has a sleep walk game and this was (likely) UGA's. I didn't see anything or hear of anything that gives me cause for concern. The 22 points given up is shocking, but hearing after the game that a lot of freshman and second stringers were getting action early, this makes sense. Don't think it was the best move, but I'm not the coach.
Ohio State Buckeyes I heard a talking head say that DC Knowles could have locked it down and kept Wisconsin in single digits. Seeing as how I'm always 50/50 on the Badgers, I'm hesitant to give them too much credit, but if Knowles wanted to lock them down, he should have. A Conference foe is not a time to play loose.
Michigan Wolverines Folks thought that losing Gattis may have been a bit of a step back, but seeing Miami and Michigan go through the season we're can't help but wonder if maybe the right calls were made.
Clemson Tigers DJ stepped up when his team needed him, a la 2020 ND. Unfortunately, with two and a half years worth of games as proof, this is unfortunately the exception. I think that there's POSSIBLY a loss before the end of the season, but I don't see it keeping them from the playoff where they get slammed by OSU in a revenge game.
Alabama Crimson Tide I still see two loses. Maybe three if you count the SEC Championship. The O-line isn't just a liability, it's going to cost them. The defense is coming together, but with Arkansas, Tennessee, LSU, MSU, and Ole Miss still ahead of them (4 of the 5 away games), that's a lot of teams and fans licking their chops ready to pounce after a concerning game against Texas.
Oklahoma State Cowboys I don't think there's a team to beat them out through the BIG12 champ. They'll drop one between now and then, and win the championship, but it won't be enough to get them into the playoffs with other teams doing the same with more weight in their conference.
USC Trojans Oooof.... this defense....
Penn State Nittany Lions A major surprise this season, but I don't think they can make it through the three game stretch of Minnesota, Ohio St, and Michigan. They'll finish up as the third best team in the B1G.
NC State Wolfpack I'm not sold on the Wolfpack. Are they good? Yes. Can they still surprise me? Yes. But I need to see it to believe that they're not going to lose at least two games.
Ole Miss Rebels Another 10 wins coming for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels. I think they have the capability of hanging with anyone, and with the right bounces, beating them. That's a lot of luck.
Oregon Ducks Oregon is going to end up pretty much where they began.
Arkansas Razorbacks Arky...
Utah Utes Utah is a fantastic team, but there's another in-conference loss for the Utes.
Tennessee Volunteers I'm a believer now. While I think Tennessee is legit, I think they're still one year away. The offense hasn't missed a beat and the defense is much improved, but giving up 400+ yards to a struggling Anthony Richardson is shocking. A gauntlet awaits with Bama, UK, and UGA within four weeks. I think they'll be lucky to go 1-2 in that as
Kentucky Wildcats UK goes 10-2. Sorry. UGA and Tennessee will be the teams to beat them, one or both will be close, but this team plays down to their competition or up. PICK ONE.
Pittsburgh Panthers The AP has the Panthers ranked at 24. I think this is under selling what they're capable of. If Slovis doesn't go out, I'm sorry Tennessee, Pitt wins that game. I think the season will wear on them some, but they're still a top 20 team.
Oklahoma Sooners Ouch. They're losing one more game minimum after that.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons After the Clemson game, that offense will give them a great shot. The defense though will have them tripping while taking it.
Washington Huskies Who saw this coming?! I'm just here for the ride.
Baylor Bears Sorry Baylor. You're losing this week. I think the Bears will finish 9-3 but give everyone everything that they can handle.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Minnesota is going to be the perennial surprise team. Better than Purdue, but with a similar
Kansas State Wildcats Kansas St. has an opportunity to compete for the B12C, but I don't think they can make it all the way there.
Florida State Seminoles Is FSU back? LOL.... no.... But if this team can continue to play at this level, 9-3 is more than possible.
Texas A&M Aggies I debated on dropping the Aggies completely, but after their defense kept this joke of an offense in the game, I think they're going to still surprise a few teams. We'll be better than 8-4. But more like 9-3. That's the ceiling.
Kansas Jayhawks Kansas is #25. As a treat. *eyes 2007 warily*
