visor841 Ballot for 2022 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 26, 2022, 1:55 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Resume ranking, seeded by the AP poll (and so will inherit some of its bias). Wins against FCS teams are ignored. Teams are penalized for uncertainty (from bad SOS) which is why Ole Miss and Oklahoma St. are missing (and why this is this is the first week Michigan and Clemson have made the rankings). Slight methodology change from last week. There are still some weird outliers, but overall I think my rankings are fairly settled. RIP to Kentucky, going from 2nd last week in my rankings to dropping out entirely. (~28th by my estimation)

Rank Team Reason
James Madison Dukes 2 ranked wins, no losses or bad wins. I originally had them at 2 because I thought 1 was too crazy, but then I decided not to be a coward. 1-6 were really tough to rank, big dropoff down to 7.
Georgia Bulldogs That incredible beatdown of Oregon is doing work.
Tennessee Volunteers
Oregon Ducks 2 ranked wins, but a bad loss to Georgia makes it hard to move them any higher.
Florida State Seminoles Here due to winning at #16 LSU.
Ohio State Buckeyes
USC Trojans
Alabama Crimson Tide
BYU Cougars
Michigan Wolverines Finally joining the rankings due to getting a decent win. Not particularly convincing tho, may be a while before moving up (unless above teams lose).
Clemson Tigers Basically the same story as Michigan (I'm lower on Wake Forest than most).
Texas A&M Aggies
NC State Wolfpack
Penn State Nittany Lions
Washington Huskies
LSU Tigers Decent win over Mississippi State, better than a lot of teams around here
Baylor Bears
Appalachian State Mountaineers A win over #12 Texas A&M, and losses to #24 UNC and #2 JMU. Really tough to place.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Washington State Cougars Staying close to #4 Oregon helped keep them ranked with their win over Wisconsin.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Real tough to rank the last 5 teams. MSU is bad, otherwise Minnesota would be higher.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders A win at Miami, no bad wins, and just a loss to #2 JMU.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Houston is ranked low enough that a close win doesn't do much. So it's a win vs Texas against a loss to #13 NC St.
North Carolina Tar Heels A win against #18 App State vs a loss to #25 Notre Dame, but the near loss against Georgia St. hurts.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish I was pretty shocked when my methodology put ND in. But Cal is maybe not terrible and there's the ranked win over #24 UNC, which make for a better win resume than anyone up to #12 Texas A&M.
