Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 25, 2022, 8:09 a.m.
Overall Rationale: 26-30: Wake, Ole Miss, UCLA, Washington State, Kansas. I don't have Ole Miss ranked as they haven't played a P5 school and I wasn't impressed by their win against Tulsa. Obviously a win against Kentucky will bump them in. While Kansas is a good story, I'm not ready to say they're one of the 25 best teams in the country. I think 26-29 are all better too.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | nothing changes... the Oregon win looks better each week |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Completely outclassed a good team with what I would argue is the best offense in college football |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Dropped Bama down due to the way OSU played against a good P5 team. Bama looked sharp against Vandy and could be back to #2 soon as they begin a stretch of three straight ranked games |
| Clemson Tigers | Really impressed with how the Tigers played against Wake, offense looks sharp ahead of another test this week |
| Michigan Wolverines | Finally played a P5 team and looked alright. Was impressed by the run game and how well the defense shut down Maryland in the second half. Run game looked sharp as well |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Almost bumped them to #5 for this week. Hooker was phenomenal, especially without his top WR. The defense is very concerning though, averaging 500 yards allowed against P5 schools. They will go as far the offense can take them. |
| USC Trojans | Not sure what to think of this team. Was skeptical of having them this high already and they didn't really show me anything to make me feel different. Pass game looked terrible, but they pulled it out on the road. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Idle |
| Kentucky Wildcats | Didn't jump them over OKST as I wasn't impressed with how they played against NIU. Maybe they were looking ahead to Ole Miss, but they'll need to be a lot better. |
| Oregon Ducks | I was leaning on leaving them in if they fell to 2-2, but they managed to pull out the road win against a very good Wash St team. The Bo Nix experience is a wild one. |
| NC State Wolfpack | The win against Texas Tech looks better after they beat UT a week later. The big test comes this week against Clemson |
| Utah Utes | Handled business, will be interested to see how they perform against Oregon State. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Took control late in the second quarter, but not fully impressed by this win. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | The defense was terrible, especially at the end. But I still think this team is solid, but not a playoff team. |
| Baylor Bears | I though ISU would be a sneaky team for Baylor, but the Bears were in control in the second half. Big game against OK St coming up. |
| Texas A&M Aggies | The Aggies failed to lose this game. Run game was impressive, but the pass offense is very shaky. Defense concerns me still too, but they pulled it out. |
| Arkansas Razorbacks | Brutal loss, brutal ending. Really should have won this game. Not sure why they changed the offensive game plan up, but they seemed to go away from attacking a weak A&M secondary and focused on running. |
| Pittsburgh Panthers | Nothing really to add, they likely won't be tested again until they play Louisville. |
| Washington Huskies | Thought Stanford could be a letdown game after the beat down of Mich St, but they were solid. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Very solid game from start to finish against BC. 4-0 with three P5 wins, two on the road in tough environments. Will see how good they really are as they go through a three week ACC gauntlet, starting off against a strong Wake offense. |
| Minnesota Golden Gophers | Completely dominated MSU, very impressed by the defense though the offense was strong as well. |
| BYU Cougars | Overcame a slow start and took care of business. Should be another easy one next week |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | They beat an undefeated P5 team pretty handily. They're the front runner for the G5 NY6 bowl in my opinion. |
| Syracuse Orange | Maybe my second most controversial pick (behind Cincy), but I value playing they're 3-0 against P5 schools, none of which have a losing record. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | I went back and forth on putting them in the top 25. They followed up a terrible loss to Tulane by beating OU, so I'll rank them but not jumping them up past OU. |
