Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2023 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 23, 2023, 11:11 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. This week was one of the more difficult weeks I've had to do. Ohio State didn't look overwhelming in their win, but Penn State isn't an easy team to overwhelm. I shuffled a few teams around the top in their order due to some ugly wins, but the top 6 teams should be the same for everyone (in some order). Michigan looks like the best team in the country for the umpteenth week in a row. I punished UNC a lot for their loss since they don't have any amazing wins to fall back on, although they have a decent amount of good wins. They'll have a chance to take on Duke in a few weeks, and that's when they can make some noise again. Of course, they can also make noise in the bad way if they lose to Georgia Tech or Campbell. Alabama and Utah got a couple of good wins over incredibly overrated teams, so they stay mostly stationary (besides moving ahead of UNC). Duke only fell a small bit from their close loss to FSU without Riley Leonard for the end of the game. Tulane had a huge lead that they let slip away vs UNT that they eventually recovered from, but that poor performance allowed 3 teams to pass them in LSU, JMU, and Mizzou, who all had good wins this past weekend. There's totally valid reasons to rank Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Kansas, but I need to see just a tiny bit more from them. Kansas has a massive opportunity with Oklahoma coming to town, while the other two can impress with strong showings vs bottom 3 B12 teams. Also considering UCLA but they don't really have any one fantastic win. Lots of teams were on byes this week, so not a ton of teams to talk about even though there were some massive games and massive upsets as well.
