JetoGrov Ballot for 2023 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 23, 2023, 5:30 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Resume-based polling. I'm doing my best. Only 9 unbeatens remain.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Overcoming their second big test of the year lands the Buckeyes as the number one team in this week's rankings. Wins over Penn State and Notre Dame are a better collection than anyone has this season, and whispers of *silver bullets* have people in Columbus dreaming the annual dream. MHJr is very very very good at football.
Florida State Seminoles The win trio of LSU-Clemson-Duke gives the Noles what I consider to be the 2nd best resume thus far in the season. As long as the ACC doesn't keep ACC'ing and they can avoid playing on the CW...the Noles look playoff-bound.
Oklahoma Sooners OU moves back in my rankings this week simply because OSU and FSU picked up nice wins. I still think the win vs Texas is the best anyone has this year, it's just that the Sooners don't really have another great one to go along with it.
Washington Huskies As much as we cry "Michigan and UGA have easy peasy schedules!!!!!" I think we overlook how fickle winning can be in CFB and how truly difficult it is to remain unbeaten. UW found that out this week with a sloppy, scrappy win over ASU. It wasn't pretty, it wasn't impressive...but it's a win. The signature win over Oregon keeps the Huskies in front of Michigan and UGA for now.
Michigan Wolverines Still have a hard time distinguishing Michigan from UGA...with one exception...Michigan beats the brakes off of teams. Wins over UNLV, BGSU, and Rutgers are better than people thought they would be, and this team is dominant from a game control stance (insert sign stealing joke).
Georgia Bulldogs Not much to say for UGA. They'll probs win the SEC...they'll probs go undefeated. In a traditional AP Poll they should be the #1 team in the country....butttttttt in my rankings they clearly have the weakest resume of any P5 unbeaten. Like, congrats you smoked Kentucky.
Texas Longhorns The win @Bama is the best that any one-loss team has, thus Texas is my highest ranked one-loss team. Maybe don't screw around with Houston so much though.
Alabama Crimson Tide They ain't pretty, they ain't inspiring...but wins over Ole Miss, Tennessee, and A&M are all pretty solid. Still think this team has one more loss in them before Atlanta but not sure where it's going to come from.
Oregon State Beavers Impressive wins over UCLA and Utah, better than most one-loss teams can say.
Utah Utes The Utes won on the road!!! The Utes won on the road!! Add the USC win in with wins over UCLA and Florida and I think it's fair to say that Utah has a Top 10 resume right now.
James Madison Dukes Remaining unbeaten in what I think is the best G5 league means that JMU is my highest ranked G5 team. Let them play!!! Let em play!!!!
Ole Miss Rebels Win over LSU is looking better with each week...this team is probably frauds, but I'm not sure anyone is going to expose them. Hell, maybe they'll beat UGA.
Air Force Falcons Off we go into the wild blue yonder...off we go into the sky!!! AF keeps winning and keeps steadily climbing altitude in my rankings. Having a service academy in a NY6 bowl would be pretty sick, fr fr.
Missouri Tigers Don't look now but Mizzou is our greatest hope to knock off UGA. The Kansas State and Memphis wins look pretty good...AND they beat UK so that means something, I guess.
Louisville Cardinals Loss against Pitt bad. Win over ND good. *shrug* you can be #15.
Penn State Nittany Lions Recipients of a "good loss" in Columbus. The wins aren't there for Penn State to be any higher in my rankings, WVU is pretty good and Iowa is....well, yeah.
Oregon Ducks If I ranked teams like Power Rankings then I would have Oregon much higher, probs Top 10. But I don't, I only care about what you've done. Currently, Oregon's best win is over a Wazzu team that is falling apart. If the Ducks are as good as I think then they'll be moving up these rankings in no time...but for now they're back here.
Liberty Flames I miss when I was ignorant to Liberty University. When picking them in March Madness or seeing their G5 success was cool. Now, I just feel dirty. The past decade has been a beautiful display and execution of sports-washing, right? Anyway, they're unbeaten in FBS's weakest conference...so they get ranked.
Tulane Green Wave Best team in the American, not much else to add. One QB injury away from being unbeaten.
North Carolina Tar Heels AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *point and laugh, point and laugh*
LSU Tigers Is it weird that I was more impressed with a win over Army than I have been by many of LSU's recent wins??
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Wins over Duke and USC are pretty good still...not much else to add.
Toledo Rockets With the win @Miami(OH) (who is pretty good), Toledo moves into control of the MAC and into my rankings. Is a conference title repeat in the works??
Duke Blue Devils The win over Clemson has lost some serious luster...but I dunno, this team is plucky...and ranking teams at this part of the rankings is tough.
Fresno State Bulldogs Wins @Purdue and @AzState are better than most G5 teams have. Big (surprisingly) showdown with UNLV this week...the winner of which will definitely be in next week's edition of the rankings!
