SkiFlashing Ballot for 2022 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 25, 2022, 3:04 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Not losing is the most important thing 99% of the time - strength of schedule does matter, but a team who wins the games in front of them, even winning them ugly, that's more valuable than losing, even against a slightly stronger schedule.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Very convincing win against Iowa - who may not have an even competent offense but certainly have a good defence - enough to keep them safely at 1
Tennessee Volunteers Very comfortable win over UT-Martin, but essentially a bye week for them. Stays static.
Georgia Bulldogs Bye week. No movement.
Michigan Wolverines Bye week. No movement.
Clemson Tigers Close win over Syracuse - a win is a win, but a sign of weakness. I'd say there's a sizable gap between 1-4 and Clemson here at 5 at this point in the season.
TCU Horned Frogs Continue rolling with some really high character come from behind wins - they have a real shot at a playoff with the games ahead of them.
Alabama Crimson Tide A typical Bama bounceback win. Total shutdown of Miss St. puts them back atop the 1 loss teams.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Strong win against a much-liked Texas team, don't rule them out yet if they make it to the title game without losing from here
Oregon Ducks Convincing win to put down another undefeated team, the opening game loss looms over them, but they are in form now.
Syracuse Orange Good performance, concerns about the second half collapse - but showed they can hang with the big boys.
USC Trojans Bye week, move up due to losses above them.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Comfortable win over Boston College, offense still operating at a very high level.
UCLA Bruins Just as I start to be convinced, they take a loss. There's obviously talent here, but can they execute from here on out.
Ole Miss Rebels They kept playing with fire and got burned, still a talented team but hopefully this is a wake-up call for them.
Penn State Nittany Lions Comfortable bounceback win over Minnesota, moves them above a few teams on byes.
Illinois Fighting Illini Bye week.
North Carolina Tar Heels Bye week.
Utah Utes Bye week.
Tulane Green Wave Another solid win this week over Memphis - in the driving seat for the NY6 spot
LSU Tigers Comfortable win over a very shaky Ole Miss - consistency is their number 1 issue
South Carolina Gamecocks Still unconvinced, but can't argue with results and they keep winning.
Kentucky Wildcats Bye week, below SCar on H2H.
NC State Wolfpack Bye week.
Kansas State Wildcats Tough loss to TCU - crumbled in a big moment, I doubt they can hang about in big games.
Cincinnati Bearcats They keep winning games, but I remain unconvinced by the number of close match-ups they put themselves in.
